Med eval: You actually need to address the underlying acid reflux to fix this. Recommend seeing your doctor for this. In the meantime, gargling twice a day with aloe vera juice may help to sooth your pain/ laryngitis.

will chronic laryngitis go away if i take an over-the-counter acid reflux medicine? acid reflux in the past has caused me to have chronic laryngitis. will over-the-counter reflux pills be strong enough or do i still have to take a prescription medication?

Usually : Usually you need a strong anti acid medication from the proton pump inhibitor (ppi) family.  Prilosec/omeprazole is one of these and can be bought over the counter.  You normally need prolonged therapy that should be monitored by a doctor.  Ppis can cause weaker bones and there is a risk of worse reflux if you come off of it cold turkey.

You need: to be evaluated by a GI (Gastroenterologist) Provider who will probably wish to endoscopically confirm the diagnosis and treat with appropriate Proton Pum Inhibitors (ag PRILOSEC) and possibly H-2 Blockers (PEPCID , ZANTAC (ranitidine)  The laryngitis can ALSO be due to ACID and the "fullness" may be due to a co-existing HIATUS HERNIA

: By the reading, you did not take a deep inspiration when the film was taken so the pulmonary vessels appeared congested and radiologist used that fact to adjust the heart size. No, you do not have pulmonary vascular congestion. Take care.

f, obese on prilosec 40mg for gerd and chronic laryngitis. i reduced prilosec to 20mg for last 3 weeks due to bloating. ive had more reflux, itchy burning throat, and a bronchospasm with bad cough and mucus. can reduction of prilosec cause flareups?

: The reduced dose could allow for your GERD symptoms to return that were controlled with the higher dose. You should see a GI doctor to see if there is an alternative treatment that would lead to less bloating. There may be an effective treatment that won’t lead to the bloating side effect. So, see a GI doctor for evaluation and treatment. Good luck to you!

Supportive care: Laryngitis is usually a viral infection, and is contagious.  Push fluids, gargle with warm salt water, and use lozenges.  Get plenty of rest.  There is no treatment other than supportive care.  

Don't share drinking glasses, and avoid close contact with others.  It will decrease the chances of others catching it.

Virus: You probably had a virus or an infection not sensitive to amox.  Now you may have a secondary bacterial infection. The so called "double-worsening.".

Allergy testing: In allergic rhinitis, it would not be unusual to only have mild mucosal thickening on ct scan.  That's good news... You don't have sinusitis or some other process going on!

if 3-4 weeks of regular nasal steroid spray doesn't help, (must be used as prescribe to work) then you may want to see an allergist for formal allergy testing.
