Nondiagnostic: Such a tiny lesion is nonspecific. Could it have been an insect bite? If these lesions recur or increase in size or number, have a physician examine you.

my son has a pin head sized raised red dot on his scrotum.  he is 3 months old.  it is not a tick.  what is it? i think it has always been there. it was a little flatter before.  still very small though, like a red poppy seed.  it seems to be a blood blis

It's : It's difficult to be able to say exactly what it is without seeing it, but from your description, it may be a hemangioma or strawberry spot.  Hemangiomas are a collection of blood vessels under the skin - common and typically harmless in infants.  They tend to appear around 2 months of age and are bright red.  They increase in size until about 1 year to 18 months and then they start to disappear and are usually gone by 2-3 years of age.  The only time they are a concern is if they are over an eye (because they can affect vision) or when a child has 5 or more (if they have that many, they may have them internally also).  Show the spot to your child's doctor at his next appointment to be sure that it is in fact a hemangioma.

my 35 y/o son noticed tiny red pin dot spots on his arms..not in one particular area..no other symptoms, had normal cbc & urine 2 months ago.. is this a concern? could it be from something he is using, or dry skin/excema or from house heat? worried?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests.  You may watch and wait. If the spots, ulcerate, develop into bruises, other part of the body get involved, he gets fever or loses weight, it would be prudent to see a doctor. Wish you good health!

i've been having a sudden, sharp, burning pain that feels as if someone is stabbing a burning hot pin into my skin. it's in the exact same place each time, my outer lower leg, but when i look, there is no mark, no redness, no bump, nothing?

: The type of pain is suggesting a neuropathic involvement, meaning that the local nerve may be involved. There are many possible causes from mechanical, such as local compression to systemic conditions causing neuropathy. Having it mentioned to your primary care doc would be a good idea in case it starts creating discomfort.

i am experiencing  skin redness or irritation around my lips after i eat, laugh, even kiss. this redness, when i'm not eating etc, is a brown pigmented line which looks like a distorted lip liner. this started 6 years ago as a small brown dot.

Melanin: It is possible that the small brown dot that initially appeared was melanin, the substance that is responsible for pigmentation in the skin and tissues of the body. The melanocytes are cells that produce melanin and some people can have brown pigmentation in the lips, as well as the tissues of the mouth.

Petechiae: What you're describing sounds like a cluster of broken tiny blood vessels called petechiae.  Petechiae can be caused by injury, inflammation, suction, friction or increased pressure in the blood vessels.  (I'm probably missing a few causes!)  You should be worried enough to have this checked out but, chances are that it's not a sign of something serious.

Angiomas: Angiomas are benign tumors derived from cells of the vascular or lymphatic vessel walls (epithelium) or derived from cells of the tissues surrounding these vessels.
Angiomas are a frequent occurrence as patients age, but they might be an indicator of systemic problems such as liver disease. They are not commonly associated with malignancy. But since i can not see the lesions i can not be sure.

Angioma is one of the most commonly occurring of all skin lesions, it does not threaten the health or well-being of an individual and is removed generally for cosmetic reasons.

Doctor can evaluate: Skin blood spots are called petechiae (purpura if they are big), and are due to blood cells leaking out of the tiny blood vessels in the skin. After blood cells have leaked out, the area behaves just like a bruise (the body breaks down the blood cells into different colored pigments, and carries them away). Sometimes they are nothing bad; other times they mean a serious blood or infection problem.
