See ophthalmologist: The eye probably has a small hemorrhage in the sclera which will go away in time.  The problem is that this is less likely since you are symptomatic.  Do  not fool with the eye.  Vision is precious and you will do yourself a favor by being seen and making sure this is nothing more severe.  Go over to the eye center on mohammed ali.  They should be still open. Call first.

Depends how long?: If you've just noticed it now, and it's not hurting, and just red spot, make sure your doctor watches it. If it's spreading, painful, and you keep touching it, or related to possible dust orbacteria from phone use, or a recent viral cold, and no discharge, try using lubricating saline drops (without perservative).Then, have your eye doctor examine you fully. It could be just irritated capillaries.

Dryness is possible: A common cause of redness and irritation with contacts is dryness.  Other issues are contact lens overwear and improper management.  Are you removing the lens each night?  Are you rinsing it well after cleaning before insertion?   Check with the initial fitter of the lens to see if some changes need be made.

stubborn father has a red eye, half the eye is red from eyeball to corner of eye towards the nose. refuses doc, no vision issues. going on 5 days?

He's probably right: If bright red (like blood), and no pain or other symptoms, it's probably a subconjunctival hemorrhage, i.e. a small broken blood vessel. It can happen from normal eye rubbing. It probably will clear up very soon, and quite suddenly. He'll probably wake up in the next couple of days with an entirely normal looking eye. In that case and if it doesn't happen repeatedly, he (and you) can rest easy.

hello, i have had my left eye watering constantly for perhaps a week now, and wiping away tears/discharge has now irritated the skin around my eye. also, it has been painful to press on the inside corner of my eye for quite a few weeks, and i am unsure if this is related. i thought this could be allergies as my head does feel stuffy intermittently, but my new red eye socket (not the eye itself) has motivated me to ask.

: You have an obstructed and possibly infected tear drainage system (dacryocystitis). The tears drain via tiny openings at the inside corner of each lid into a sac under the skin at the inside corner and then into the nasal cavity. You might feel a nodule when you press the inside corner. This has to be treated often with oral antibiotics along with eye drops, and sometimes a minor procedure.

Yes : Yes it can be transferred by touch.  You need immediate evaluation and care for both the eye infection and vaginal candida infection at an emergency department or urgent care clinic.

Eye discharge: Use warm compress to control the discharge for now till you see the eye doctor for another evaluation. If you wear contact lens stopped them.

Many possibilities: A simple red eye can be literally hundreds of things.  But in general if it is only red with no other symptoms like pain, itching, irritation, tearing, discharge, blurred vision it is unlikely to be anything to worry about.  Watch for other symptoms and if they occur you should see an eye doc.

Red eye morning: The most common causes of red eye in the morning are: not enough sleep, blepharitis, allergy, dry eye, eyes opening while sleeping. An eye MD can help you sort it out. In the meantime, get enough sleep. Blepharitis is treated with warm compresses in the evening followed by scrubbing the base of the eyelashes with a cotton swab dipped in diluted baby shampoo. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
