Tetanus: you can get tetanus without a serious cut so stay updated on vaccines.  A small cut as you describe would be covered by your tetanus shot six years ago.

cut while shaving, razor seems clean,last tetanus shot was 12 years ago. im abroad  and can only get a shot in 5 weeks.  is it urgent? will i be ok?

You should be fine: Tetanus immunization doesn't just "end" at 10 years, it is a suggested interval and you have some immunity.  This was the definition of a clean injury.  Not to worry.  You can just get a booster for the NEXT one which  might not be so clean.

Yes: Yes, if you were cut by that rusty razor. If it has been more than 10 years since your last tetanus shot or you don't know your status- please address this.

No: A brand new razor would be unlikely to harbor the tetanus bacteria and so, no, would not cause tetanus.

Hard to say: Although KMnO4 is a good oxidizer and thus is good for antiseptic purposes, I'm not sure it would be strong enough to kill any tetanus on the razor. Your best bet is probably to go and get a Td vaccination, or better yet, a Tdap vaccination.

got cut from a safety razor while shaving. blade was new and didn't seem to have any rust or soil on it. i used shaving cream and aftershave after the cut. i haven't taken tetanus shot in last 5 years. do i need tetanus shot. blade new, 20 hrs passed?

: Your risk of tetanus with such a cut approaches zero, but is not zero. Cleaning it well &amp; watching for inflammation is needed. Tetanus is first a localized infection. If it has been 20 years it would be a good time to get a booster so you are not at risk.

Razor cut: No, tetanus germ is not found in stool your majo concern would be e coli contamination.

Tetanus: The doctor is correct.  But, if you are ten years past a tetanus vaccination then any skin injury is a chance to remind the patient that they need this vital vaccination on an every ten year basis.

i got a tiny cut from a rusted razor blade that was sitting in my home. it is so small but it did bleed a bit. i never got a tetanus shot, should i be concerned about that? i cleaned it with soap and sprayed alcohol on it and neoporin with band-aid?

: Yes, you should be up to date with your tetanus shot. The easiest will be during a visit with your primary care doc, when you can have the foot wound looked at and getting your tetanus shot. Foot wounds tend to get infected due to location and should be watched and cared for closely until healed completely.

i cut scrotum with rusty razor while shaving i got my tetanus shot 5-9 months ago i washed it out with soap and water, hydrogen peroxide too. what now?

Accepted Answer

Replace razor: Sounds like a manscaping mishap. Keep an eye out for swelling, redness or pus coming from razor cut. Otherwise, wash scrotum daily, let wounds heal and get a new razor.
