i've had a palpable 0.5cm anterior cervical lymph node for three months.  when i noticed the node, i had folliculitis in the neck and the spots went away with antibacterial cream. its size fluctuates when i squeeze it a lot. my gp is not concerned?

: It can months for a lymph node draining a site of infection to return to normal size. You may feel the node every couple of weeks, if the lymph gland doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Need Blood Work: Complete blood count (cbc)
    erythrocyte sedimentation rate (esr)
    serology for ebv (antiviral capsid antigen [anti-vca] igg and igm and ebv nuclear antigens [ebna]), cmv, hiv, toxoplasmosis, b. Henselae, tularemia, syphilis, and rubella, among others.

Yes: The lymph node enlargement and bug bite are most likely related. The lymph node will likely regress soon as the inflammation subsides. I would not worry too much unless other symptoms occur or the regression is delayed.

Anything &gt;2 cm ...: You only worry if the node is 2 cm or larger, painless and growing in size(getting bigger over a month of two. Unless it is getting bigger, you do not need to be concerned. But do not chase and look for it daily....once weekly is good enough. if concerned go see a an ENT doctor/specialist.

Same name: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Yes, I believe so: Lymph nodes in the neck are usually not palpable unless they are enlarged. So if it is "Large" then it has to be palpable, but we need to know the size and for how long has it  been there? Is it getting bigger? if it is more than one inch in size, it needs to be further evaluated   (?biopsy) to find the cause especially if it is getting bigger.
