For : For styes, also known as chalazions, you may try warm compresses. I advise my patients to heat a small dinner potato in the microwave and then wrap it with a wet, warm wash cloth. Warm compresses three times daily will help the chalazion resorb.

If after a few weeks or a month, the chalazion persists, you should have an eye exam to make sure the lesion is a stye and not something else. Your ophthalmologist (eye physician & surgeon) will be able to discuss surgical removal with you if needed.

Hello. : Hello.  Most important thing - try not to touch your stye with your fingers, don't pick at it and definately don't squeeze it.  You can apply warm compresses for ten to fifteen minutes at a time, four to six  times per day. Styes usually resolve within seven to ten days.

Basic treatments: Warm compresses may be helpful. Hold a very warm, wet towel on the eyelid for five to 10 minutes, four times a day, to reduce swelling and promote drainage of the gland. Although the towel and the water should be clean, they need not be sterile.
Lightly massage the area several times a day to help express the oil clogging the gland. Do not try to 'pop' it.  See eye doctor if it persists too long.

Bacterial infection: This is a bacterial infeciton of the hair follicles of the lashes of the lid.  If it is pointing, simply plucking the lash within the pustule may relieve the sty and essentially "lance the boil".  Warm compresses help.  If this does not resolve or if worse or concern, see your pcp, eye care professional or other medical attention.  Antibiotic, orally and topically may be needed and good hygiene.
