For most people, fat is more satisfying in terms of feeling full than carbs.  As a result you eat fewer calories overall and lose weight.  Also, when fat is burned it produces ketones.  These suppress your appetite as well.  The amount of calories burned depends on your activity.

Calorie calculate: Get the app Cronometer and enter what you eat and exercise you do and see. 100 calories is about 1/2 Snickers.  You need to exercise more or eat fewer calories.  Simple in concept difficult in execution.
