do i have to worry?

Any symptoms?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, going by averages, your results are not worrisome.

my father age 48 recently had psa level 71 ng/ml , had problem in urination,  is it cancer is it curable?

See answer: A PSA of 71 ng/ml is markedly elevated and in that range is usually related to prostate cancer or a recent urinary tract infection/prostatitis. Benign enlargement of the prostate (BPH) is most common cause of an elevated PSA but, by itself, would not cause that degree of PSA elevation. If prostate cancer is the cause, PSA alone does not accurately predict curability. Urology evaluation needed.

my father in low has cancer prostate, on diagnosis his psa was 17 ng/ml, he recieved hormonal treatment now psa is 0.3 ng/ml , wht is that mean?

In addition to hormo: Besides hormonal treatment, he will likely need local radiotherapy to the prostate gland. He should seek a second opinion from a radiotherapist just to be sure that he is receiving adequate treatment for his prostate cancer.

my tumor markers are psa 0.73 ng/ml,afp 6.14 iu/ml, cea 1.34 ng/ml, ca-19.9 16.62 u/ml. should i investigate further since my afp is high?

Why did you test?: You need to give us your medical history as to why you had the tumor markers tested???. Your AFP is slightly raised. It may not have any meaning unless you have liver disease of some kind......so tell us more about you in terms of your medical condition

enlarged prostate. psa 11.9 ng/ml.doctor advised for prostate biopsy. can i take finasteride 5 mg tablets to shrink my prostate gland before  biopsy ?

No point: Prostate biopsy is 2c if u have prostate cancer or not. Finesteride is used for benign symptomatic prostatic enlargement. May well be an option if prostate biopsy is negative.

Prostate : As you age, the prostate gland can increase in size and cause pressure on the tube leaving from your bladder to the outside. Fortunately your PSA exam appeared to be normal but the function is still a problem. You should discuss the failure of the medications used with your doctor to see if a urologist would need to recommend more aggressive management.

See below.: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it is also important to know if the PSA has been this high all along or it was lower and has now increased. Your urologist should be able to address this issue as well erectile problem.

PSA under 1.0 normal: This a perfect result at your age. Prostate Specific Antigen routinely tested in Caucasians after age 50 and from 40-45 in Africans as screening test for prostate cancer. Ideally should remain below 4. PSA can be elevated when prostate is inflammed, ie as in prostatitis and can can also be elevated following vigorous digital rectal exam of prostate. Shoild always be repeated if initially elevated.

19 months after brachitherapy the psa valeu, is 5.38 ng/ml. is it normal?

It depends: It depends on what your pre-treatment psa was, but &gt;5 seems a bit high.  It can take 2 years to reach the bottom level of psa after radiation, but it still seems high to me.  Talk with your radiation oncologist and urologist.
