Blood flow: The color doppler images show flow within a nodule. This really only indicates the nodule is made of solid tissue with internal blood vessels and, as such, is not a cyst.

saw dr last week for pain and swelling on right side of neck. had ultrasound of thyroid- came back normal. no nodules. what else could be causing it?

Other structures . : It be a problem in the other structures of the neck ie muscles , lymph nodes etc . If the swelling persists . You need cat scan of the neck.

Probably not: If there is no nodule seen on the most recent exam then there is really nothing to follow up. Thyroid is a superficial organ so it's easily scanned with an ultrasound and if there is a nodule its easy to pick up. You can always talk to the radiologist who read your ultrasound if you are still concerned.

i had an ultrasound of thyroid in that its showing bialateral midly heterogeneous lobes od thyroid gland and no mass lession in either lobe of thyroid gland but my blood work shows normal levels and my doc said no need to take medicine please help?

: Neither the imagining study nor the blood tests revealed an abnormality and you should follow your doctor's advice.

Borderline abnormal: The free T3 (liothyronine) and free T4 levels are normal.  The TSH is borderline low.  Typically the TSH is the most sensitive indicator of your thyroid level, and when low suggests that your thyroid level may be high (overactive).  Currently you do not have enough of an abnormality to treat.  The colloid cysts are usually of no significance.  You should simply repeat the thyroid levels in 1 month.

why would an ultrasound show something a ct did not? my. dr ordered a ct of throat, it was clear, about a month later he ordered an ultrasound of thyroid and a small spot on either the parathyroid or something near. blood tests, parathyroid healthy?

: Generally CT scans are more accurate than ultrasound as details of tissues are more visible. Also ultrasound is operator dependent. Why were they ordered in the first place? A repeat CT might be considered giving the ultrasound finfing as the reason.

Hypothyroid: The answer to this question depends on what your exact levels are and what type of symptoms you have.  "Subclinical Hypothyroidsim" sometimes presents in the manner you describe.

It tells you the texture (smooth, lumpy...), amount of blood flow, whether or not there is a growth/tumor on the thyroid, whether or not the growth is full of liquid, completely solid or mixture of both and how big the growth is...

Many possibilities: An enlarged thyroid (goiter) has many causes and possible treatments.  Is it causing hyper/hypothyroidism (i.e. Graves disease, toxic goiter)? Check tsh, ft4. Maybe anti-tpo. Is the goiter nodular or smooth? This may require an ultrasound, with biopsy of any suspicious nodules. Is it really big and impair your swallowing/breathing? Then maybe surgery.  See your endocrinologist.
