my dr have me prednisone for inflamed sinuses, ear canal, head pressure on one side of face, after sudafed didnt work.  how long does it usually take to clear up inflammation? thank you?

Varies: If you are on an adequate dose you should feel some results within 1-5 days with further improvement possible with ongoing treatment beyond that. Work with physician to determine length of time you need treatment because the longer you stay on the prednisone the greater the need for tapering the medication versus just stopping abruptly.

Tinnitus is a: Very difficult condition to treat successfully.  Go and see a specialist.  And you might want to try american tinnitus association home page for support and referral.

It may....: "ear congestion" often is the result of malfunctioning of the eustachian tube--a tiny little tube connecting your inner ear area to the back/side of your throat/mouth. The the tube is functioning normally, you don't have the "congestion feel in ear" when this tube is blocked i.e. Cold/allergies, it affects drainage and hence affects middle ear. Prednisone may help. If worse, call doc. Good luck.

: Prednisone can reduce inflammation of the TMJ and of an ear canal afflicted with eczema. Apart from that I see no effect of reducing inflammation of other ear structures unless you're treating acute ear drum inflammation/infection causing actual earache

i have pressure in my left ear and my ear constantly pops. i took prescribed prednisone but it hasn't gone away. anything else i can do?

Let you doctor know: A sensation of pressure in the ear may be due to a problem in the middle ear & eustachian tube or the inner ear. Popping usually indicates eustachian tube issues. Prednisone is a potent medication reserved for problems of at least moderate severity. Your md will want to know it it hasn't worked & will direct you towards the next appropriate steps in diagnosis & treatment. Lots of water may help.L.

i have fluid in my ears w/ ringing & am on day 5 of prednisone & claritin (loratadine). i am having slight pain in my ears every so often. what would be causing it?

Infection?: Your problem may be from an ear infection which Prednisone and Claritin (loratadine) won't touch.  You may also have TMJ problem from grinding or clenching.  Need to check with your doctor again.

Yes: This does pass over in the breastmilk but studies show the amount is less than 1% .The drug is actually something that mimics one your body makes naturally as a stress hormone.

No, not really: There is no evidence that Pseudoephedrine helps an ear infection, but it may alleviate nasal congestion.  Prednisone decreases inflammation in a nonspecific way, but should be used sparingly and only on doctor's orders.

It may not: The use of Prednisone is not universally helpful. If it does help there should be an improvement within a few days.
