Go see your doctor: Prednisolone is a category c medication in which we do not have human data during pregnancy. That said, 5mg twice daily is a pretty hefty dose so you need to discuss w/your obstetrician whether the potential benefit is worth the potential risk. Loratadine & montelukast are safer category b options for allergies.

i've been given the choice of taking either 32 mg methylprednisolone at 12 and 2 hours or prednisolone 50mg at 13, 7, and 1 hr pre mri for a contrast allergy. is there a significant difference in half-life and elimination?

: Not much different between the two in biologic half life.

No: So long she is better, active and responding well to treatment, she will be fine

: Although both are steroids, they are different medicines so the dosing is different. But, the effect would be the same as both would help prevent a reaction to the contrast. I would choose whichever is easier for you! Good luck with your MRI!

i'm on prednisolone and allegra (fexofenadine) for a  severe allergy attack (hives, itching, swollen eyes) can i safely take valium to help me relax and sleep?

Yes: Sometimes prednisolone and other steroid products can cause insomnia or restless sleep. While allegra (fexofenadine) is an antihistamine and has a potential for drowsiness , it is of low potential. It is ok to take valium at night but I would not do it indefinitely because can be habit forming.

Steroid side effect: Sleep with your windows closed, use your air conditioning and take an antihistamine at night rather than steroids. If necessary you can take another anti histamine in the morning.

AAD: Studies have shown that older patients are especially at risk for antibiotic associated diarrhea (AAD). A dangerous variety called C. Difficile can cause anything from a mild diarrhea to pseudomembranous colitis which is contagious and can be fatal. Call the prescribing doctor right away if you have fever. Studies show probiotics not completely efficacious in preventing AAD. Hydrate.

Any: This is just a different form of the same family of meds. The body produces cortisol, the parent molecule of all these drugs as a stress hormone.These vary in their duration of effect and palatability. I would use it at any age I find it needed.

Powerful hormone: Side effects from steroids are mostly related to the duration of treatment although the amount is also important. 30mg a day is a good amount. With long term use you'd be likely to see thin bones, thin skin, fragile blood vessels (easy bruising), weight gain, increased risk for diabetes mellitus, heart attack and stroke.

Put it in: If you miss a dose of eye drops, put it in as soon as you remember.  Then resume your normal schedule.
