my nose got hit 11 days post op of rhinoplasty and i cried a lot... the next morning my face swells too much agaim. its 3 days already still swelling. what should i do to reduce swelling.?

Post op care: Please follow your post operative care instructions. If allowed, a cool compress may be applied. Watch for signs of infection, trouble breathing and please schedule a follow up visit.

Rhinoplasty: You should follow your surgeon's postop instructions. Take pain medications as needed.

can i use use a sunbed 3 months post op closed rhinoplasty without it affecting the end result?

Sunbed: If you are really concerned about it affecting your end result of a surgical procedure, always ask the surgeon.  Beyond that, know that a sunbed causes sun damage just like the sun.  I do not recommend sun beds or sunbathing.

how long will my tkr  stay swollen . its been 4 weeks post op and the swelling and pain r still present . i ice it all the time?

It varies: There is not an exact time frame for swelling to persist after a knee replacement. Most patients' knees will always look different from a "normal" knee. Swelling in general lasts until full range or motion returns and there is sufficient strength to walk up and down stairs without a cane--typically 2-3 months.

after septorhinoplasty, ( im almost 4 weeks post op) how do you know if a residual dorsal hump is swelling or otherwise? does the dr. really even know

Post op rhinoplasty: It is possible that there is some swelling accounting for the appearance of your nose. Post op changes in rhinoplasty can take many months to resolve. If however, there is a very obvious residual hump, it  may not go away completely. It is hard to have patience when you are looking at your nose every day,  Give it some time and continue to check in with your surgeon.

You can try elevation and ice as well as aleve (naproxen).

It's illegal: As it is illegal to smoke per federal law, a conscientious doctor can't recommend marijuana use, especially in a forum like this.  Smoking anything is never good for healing.  Discuss with your surgeon.

what can be included in the best diet following post-op endoscopic prepatellar bursectomy where there is lots of swelling?

Diet: Has nothing to do with pre-patellar bursitis. Eat well and stay thin. Compression and ice is good prophylaxis for the post-op swelling.  Endoscopy for pre-patellar bursitis is an unusual treatment unless conservative care, which is almost always effective, fails repeatedly. Then you wonder why it failed.

extremely happy with my rhinoplasty/genioplasty 7 days post op! when will things look natural? i know 6mo- a year but 5mo will it settle and my chin?

Accepted Answer

Congratulations!: Swelling of the surgical sites are normal postoperatively.  The nasal tip may stay swollen for up to a year, the chin swelling and any bruising should usually go away in a few weeks.  By 5 months you should be looking great!

10 hours post op, total thyroidectomy. surgeon said was harder to remove than first thought due to hidden swelling. normal to have lots of pain/stiff?

Normal?: No it is not "normal" but it does happen. I presume you are still in the hospital - if so you must ask your surgeon for medication to control your pain.
