: Provera, a progestin, will not "shrink" an ovarian cyst.  If the cyst is not "complex" on the U/S report, it does not indicate possible malignancy.  Ask your GYN physician for guidance, and he/she may recommend laparoscopic removal of the cyst and biopsy.

Depends: Depends on the size and appearance.  Though no radiographic test is perfect.  The only way to know what it is for sure is to take it out.  See a gyn to determine if this is necessary.

Not usually: Menopause is defined by a decline in hormone levels and their effects. As the estrogen decreases, the ovaries become nonproductive. The appearance or enlargement of ovarian cysts should not occur after menopause. See your doctor as likely, this cyst needs to be removed. Your doctor will want to rule out cancer and the earlier the work up, the earlier treatment can be rendered for the best outcome.

i am 54 years old with a painful ovarian cyst for 4 years now.  ultrasounds show it is simple. does it need to be removed? i am not menopausal yet.

Maybe: You do not mention how large or small it is. A large simple cyst can be painful just as a small one. If it does not respond to treatment and it is still painful, there may not be that many options left other than take it out.

See MD: A complex mass at any time is concerning-but more so after menopause.  It may have been there for years and be totally benign, but most mds will be worried about a complex mass.  A ca125 and he4 test can help decide whether to go to surgery now or closely watching with follow up ultrasound.  If it is more than 5 cm or there are other worrisome looking signs on ultrasound, surgery will be necessary.

hi.......i have a 3.8 cm hemorrhagic right ovarian cyst. i will be 50 yrs old and not menopausal. had a hysterectomy 10 yrs ago. what should i do?

Watch it...: Hemorrhagic ovarian cysts usually go away on their own without surgical intervention.  If it isn't too painful, its usually ok to repeat the u/s in a few months to make sure it is gone.  If it is very painful, it can be removed surgically.  Best wishes!

Very likely benign : If a pelvic sonogram confirms that your 3 cm ovarian cyst has thin walls, clear fluid,no septation and normal blood flow, it is most probably benign. If you have a personal history or a family history of breast-colon-endometrial-thyroid tumors, have never been pregnant, never used oral contraceptives, have symptoms and risk factors for ovarian tumors...consult a Gyn oncologist for evaluation.

hi i have hypothyroidism and hashimotos. my tsh is high right now and my meds need to be adjusted. i also have an ovarian cyst and am peri menopausal and was wondering if there could be an type of correlation between the two?

Which two?: Perimenopause is a hormonal issue and could be affecting your thyroid hormone. Ovarian cyst is not likely to be an issue affecting your thyroid. In any case you need to seek medical care to avoid nunecessary suffering.

It can last for: years.Up to and beyond 7 yrs in some women.If symptoms are intolerable,ask Gyn for help( hormone replacement therapy).
