Recovery time: I would expect that there would be pain and swelling some months after such a procedure.  The reattachment requires internal fixation of the tendon in the heel bone.  The bone removal in itself causes swelling.  Physical therapy after surgery seems to speed recovery.

Achilles Tendon: There are a lot of options prior to surgery for achilles tendon calcification pathology.  Physical therapy, wearing supportive open backed shoes, antiinflammatory medications, rest.  Although you may be at risk for heel cord rupture, it's not definitive.

Achilles tendon : Sorry to hear about your achilles tendon tear.  Stop smoking if you smoke, don't drink alcohol (it's a toxic), hydrate and use ice around the area because it's probably swollen and bruised.  Eat healthy and keep away from spicy foods that may raise your blood pressure.  Also, shave the area and use aftershave (alcohol based) to clean afterwards if there are hairs in the back of the leg.

Likely Suture Knots: Heavy suture material is used for achilles tendon repairs.  After all swelling goes down over time, sometimes the suture knots become palpable and can goes symptoms.  If suture knots are causing a problem, they can be surgically removed at this stage.

No: I would not recommend it.  After surgery you have a higher likelihood for a blood clot.  Traveling, especially air travel increases that risk because you are not moving at all for prolonged periods.  Also, because most travel is in a seated position, your leg will swell.
