i had vocal cord surgery about two weeks ago to remove a polyp and about three days ago i had a lymph node swell under my left jaw.is this normal?

: A lymph node in that location processes serum from the nearby throat/gums and skin structures. I  would not assume it has anything to do with a procedure over 10 days previous to the noted change.

i was vomiting for several hours  with the flu a few days later i developed tonsils plus the ent found a polyp on my vocal cords what can i expect?

I'd expect nothing: Eventful. Vocal cord polyps are usually benign.And the ENT specialist would do a biopsy for anything suspicious for cancer.
Drink lots of liquids, take vitamin c & lots of bed rest for your flu.
Follow up with your primary care dr for any concerns.

Growth in voice box: Vocal cord polyps are benign lesions that can occur either one or both sides of voice box.

They can shrink: Often times the best coure of action is to have the polyp removed (and biopsied for presence of cancer cells-as benign polyps can convert to malignant tumors)  check with an experienced otolaryngolgist (ent).

Overuse: Cancer is an uncommon cause of lesions on the vocal cords.  The most common is growth of polyps which are like callouses and comes from over use, serious singing and chronic infection.

Food: Clear liquids day of surgery or soft food, then no restrictions in most cases.

It can be: Sometimes healing can lead to swelling and in some cases a temporary polyp called a granuloma. Contact your surgeon and let him/her know. They may want you to come in to take a look.

is there a surgery i can get to thicken my vocal cords and improve the deepness of my voice? how much does a surgery like that typically cost?

Speech therapist: Consult a speech therapist. There is no surgical procedure to thicken the cords and it is unlikely that you need one any way. You may try a medical school near you for a speech therapy specialist.

Voice rest : Voice rest might help. From the picture it appears to be a true cyst and the concern is that if imight damage the vocal cord if it remains or enlarges.

what is the recovery time after having surgery for nasal polyps?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Depends on how extensive the procedure and who is doing it. In my patients they have sponge in their nose overnight. That sponge is removed the next morning and they can go about their regular activities. Usually it takes a few days to feel "normal." i ask them not to engage in any activities that raise their blood pressure in the first week including sexual relations.
