pneumonia , what blood test are done to test?

Pneumonia: I do not know any physician who would diagnose pneumonia based upon blood tests. Pneumonia is diagnosed foremost by listening to the history and then listening to the lungs with the stethoscope.

started with covid symptoms on christmas, tested positive 2 days later. i havent had a fever in 5 days. im still worried that it will come back and be pneumonia or blood clots day 10. i feel fine but have severe anxiety. please help?

: You are done with this episode of Covid. In 6-8 weeks, get Covid vaccination or booster.  While you are at it get a Flu shot also.

hello i have a platelet count of 524 and aware it is considered high. i had covid last year that caused pneumonia and blood clots in my lungs. leaving scarring and breathless.could this platelet count cause more blood clots if not treated? thanks?

: Platelets are the short living (hours to days) blood elements that plug leaks in blood vessels caused by incidental trauma and assist in clot formation when activated by other factors. The elevated number cited by itself does not lead to excess clot formation.

No: What common with blood clots is pe (pulmonary embolism).

YES YOU CAN HAVE HIG: Yes you can have high white blood cells when you have a bacterial infection, and if your child has bacterial pneumonia, his white count was up and that is normal with pnumonia.

Pneumonia.: That's rather generic.  Some doctors get more alarmed than others.  In general, labs don't bother us too much if the patients looks and feels feel.   I certainly don't treat pneumonia based on labs.   You should ask your doctors questions like these.

doctors don't know how strep pneumonia got into blood. they speculate sinuses. i was healthy, how exactly could this germ get into my blood?

Mgt: This bacterium may be carried in the nasal/sinus passages or the source may be somewhere else eg the lungs. From there the bacteria may spread to the bloodstream. Some signs to watch for include fever and chills.

while in the hospital last november for pneumonia/covid my blood became crumbly during a blood draw. it would pop into the syringe and each crumb didn't appear to have any moisture to it. what would cause this?

: Blood does not become "crumbly'. You might have a perception of it when you saw it in the syringe. If there had been anything wrong your doc would have detected and treated it. So relax and dont worry you will be fine.

i quit smoking 6 month ago.4 weeks ago i had pneumonia/pleurisy and blood in my spetum.no more blood/cough/fever.i feel short of breath sometimes.stil?

Not ususual: Many/most people go through a period of shortness of breath when they quit. The reason is, cigarette smoke is very irritating and smokers cough out phlegm with smoking. When you quit, before you heal, there's a period of continued mucous overproduction but you retain the secretions and obstruct your breathing passages. Meds can help.  Time will heal. You've done the right thing. Congratulations!

i have had bronchitis 2 months ago and now pneumonia.high red blood cell count and high protein in the blood. should i be screened for lung cancer?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Are you a smoker, family history of lung cancer? If you are, you should screen for lung cancer. How you know you got pneumonia? If you suspicious with pneumonia, then you should get a chest x-ray. If there's suspicious lesion on chest x-ray, i believe your doctor could order ct scan for you. Bottom line is go see your doctor.
