Sometimes you can't : Pms is complicated by emotional and physical changes. As simple as it may sound, sometimes it really helps to just acknowledge that you will be sensitive at certain times of the month. It's also helpful to eat a clean diet and get exercise. Yoga has helped a lot of people too. Good luck.

PMS: Diet (reduce sugar & caffeine & salt, increase fiber, calcium, vitamin E ) , lifestyle changes (aerobic exercises, psychotherapy, adequate rest & sleep ), ssri medications such as prozac, hormones, diuretics, anti-inflammatory drugs, clonidine, chasteberry, st. Johns wort, evening primrose oil  , supportive tx's.

PMS: Some are Antidepressants such as Sarafem, Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Motrin, Diuretics, &amp; hormones. Consult your PCP or Ob/Gyn. doctors.

If : If you haven't talked to your primary care doctor about this, please do so.  There are a number of different causes for these types of symptoms.  You need to be evaluated before a medication recommendation can be made.  It sounds like your mood fluctuations and your feelings of anger and irritation are very hard on you. Your doctor may recommend a consultation with a psychiatrist, a psychologist or another type of behavioral health provider. This could lead to helpful medications and talking therapy. Good luck getting the help that you need.

PMS is terrible: Pms can be debilitating and there are options for treatment.  The most effective means of controlling these symptoms involve suppression of ovulation with birth control pills, the NuvaRing or the Depo-Provera shot.  Also, some women beneft from ssri medications (like prozac) taken during the second half of your cycle.  There are other options as well, but these are a good start!

Perimenopause?: You could be transitioning into menopause.  You should see your gyn and make sure that there are no other reasons for your absent periods.  He/she can also test your hormones and get a sense of what is going on.

Hormones: Some women are more sensitive to the hormone changes during their cycles and the impact of those chemicals on all body systems can be experienced to extremes that may be uncomfortable. It's not dangerous and can vary from none to lots even in one person. Suffering is partly psychological and that part can be managed w/ skills+knowledge. The rest hurts a bit.

Both: I'm assuming you mean pre-menstrual syndrome.  Of course today being st. Patty's day, we can't ignore good luck/fortune.  Ocps (oral contraceptive pills), pre-medication with nsaids, lifestyle modifications, etc...All could potentially help.  Get with your ob/gyn and explore this further.

Depends: Cramps can be reduced with well-timed doses of non-steroidals (like Ibuprofen or naproxen) and depression might be modified slightly by products with a resemblance to antidepressants like st john's wort or those with hormonal content.  You should get much better more consistent relief from strategies designed for these symptoms by you and your physician.

It's hormonal: It is hormonal and it really plays havoc with women's emotions. Fortunately it is usually time limited and passes!
