Strain Hamstring: There is is either contusion hamstring or plantris rupture. Crutches for three weeks and ice would do both heal. If Achilles is intact/heal cord you are ok.

In : In the setting of an acute injury, the inability to bear weight (walk) without significant pain is a possible symptom of a fracture, ligament tear (especially if the knee is unstable), bruise of the joint surface, or meniscal tear.  Swelling of the joint is an additional symptom that would increase the likelihood of a more significant injury.  These symptoms following injury should be evaluated by your sports physician.

If : If your x-ray is negative for associated fracture of the tibia or fibula, it is possible that a hematoma (blood clot) has developed, pushing on the syndesmosis which is a ligament connecting between the tibia and fibula in the area of your complaint.  If this is found to be problematic, consideration can be made for evacuation of the clot.

what should i do? i was playing soccer when my friend tripped me. i then fell on my ankle, which is the one that i sprained four months ago. i can't walk on it, or put any weight on it. i don't know if i should use crutches or not! please help!

I : I recommend that you let your parents know what has happened. I recommend that you be seen by a medical provider to determine the extent of damage to your ankle. In the mean time, rest your foot and ankle, . Your parents can provide you with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication like motrin, or if they don't have this type of medication, tylenol (acetaminophen) can help the pain.  It would be helpful for you to elevate your foot. Prop it up on soft pillows to help prevent swelling.  Icing it can also help. Do you have a bag of frozen peas or corn in your fridge - this can be used without cutting open the bag. Can put on your ankle for 15 minutes several times a day. A  light bandage can be used for gentle (never overly tight) compression. I recommend that you get your parent's help with this.

: Check out your ability to run by going for a jog. If it does not cause discomfort or pain you may resume soccer.

Muscle: This would suggest a strain and microtears of muscle. It would take resting of that muscle body from vigorous exertion for 7-10 days for healing to take place. If symptoms persist or worsen see an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation.

YES: Ankle sprains are caused by "rolling" the ankle. There are three ligaments on the outside of the ankle. The degree of the injury is graded based upon the ligaments damaged. Its important to have the stability evaluated. As an athlete, you don't want to have it checked and rehab and brace it quickly.  In the meantime, "rice" (rest, ice compression, elevation) is your best bet until you see the dr.

Possibly: Soft tissue injury can be painful and debilitating...It is possible that you may have torn something....Pain and debilitation are part o nature's way of telling you that something is wrong....Best to stay off of it and see your family doc for an evaluation and possible imaging studies..Soon!
