8-9 months: Although the time before your surgeon let's you return to sports varies, any pivoting sports place great forces through the reconstruction. An autograft acl (your own tendon) typically takes 6-7 months to mature while an allograft acl (donor tendon) typically takes 8-9 months to mature. The higher your performance level, the more important it is to wait for the acl to heal and mature. 8-9 months!

i did acl surgery 4yrs ago, i did a second one 8 month ago and i've knee roughness. can i still play football or it can cause to me futur problems?

It depends: The majority of patients with acl tears have other damage to the knee at the time of the injury- either a mensical tear, bone bruise or damage to the cartilage that covers the femur or tibia. One's ability to return to sports must be individualized- how much pathology remains in the knee after acl surgery?, how effective was post-op rehab?- did you achieve full rom, your baseline strength, etc.

Possibly: Possibly and i would certainly let your surgeon know.  Some times it can be simply the breaking up of some scar tissue adhesions from your surgery, but in the worst case scenario you can retear an acl ligament or a meniscus.  A simple exam can go a long way in determining the likely cause.  Thank you.

Typically: An acl graft usually matures between 6 and 9 months after surgery, depending on the type of graft (your own, or a cadaver), from a graft standpoint, you should be able to play football. However, your return to play also involves your quad control, proprioception (ability to sense your body's position in space), and general conditioning. Your orthopedist should be assisting you on that assessment!

Possibly: If you are 10 months out from the surgery, you probably do not need to wear a brace.  Some surgeons do recommend wearing a brace for up to one year following your surgery.  It is best to check with your operating surgeon to see if what he recommends.

but it may be a good idea to talk to your orthopedic doctor if you can.

9-12 months: Optimal recovery from an acl reconstruction can be as little as 6 months. However, typical recovery and full return to sports is in the 9-12 month range. Post-operative rehab is extremely important.

Varies: It varies somewhat, based in part on the specifics of the graft and also surgeons preference.  Most can resume rehab early with goal of returning to sports by 12 weeks.
