No worries: Hypothetically anything is possible, but NO, sound waves, ionizing radiation (such as nuclear), and electromagnetic radiation (such as from cell phones and microwave ovens) have not been shown to cause autism. Our society's increased exposure to modern technologies such as cell phones has occurred by COINCIDENCE at the same time as a rise in "autism diagnoses."

Hypertension: Subarachnoid hemorrhage usually occurs from increased blood pressure or trauma.  Pitocin (oxytocin) is known to increase blood pressure, sometimes, as an undesired side effect.  It is possible this is the mechanism.

Drug allergies: Whenever a patient exhibits an unintended drug allergy response, the drug is immediately stopped and other medications are used to inhibit the allergic response. Therefore, Pitocin when given under this condition will not have its desired contraction response as it will not be given for a long enough duration for the same.

Pitocin (oxytocin): Pitocin has an anti diuretic effect and one of its side effects is water intoxication.  Pitocin is just synthetic oxytocin, which is secreted by the posterior pituitary.  Subarachnoid hemorrhage can have multiple causes, unsure if pitocin associated with that.  An MFM specialist might have a better explanation for that.

Depends on cervix: Before induction your current cervical exam is used as a determinant for which mode of induction.  Cervidil is most likely used when the cervix is less soft, dilated, and effaced (thinned out), and more posterior, as it increases prostaglandins release to stimulate dilation, thinning and softening.  Those who are already dilated and effaced benefit more from pitocin (oxytocin).

Pitocin (oxytocin) has been : Used for years and continues to be used if it is used properly it is very safe I use it on almost all of my inductions and to augment labor without inducing and augmenting my patients many could have ended up with problems, some doctors abuse and do not use Pitocin (oxytocin) properly ( not too many) in those cases it can cause problems, Pitocin (oxytocin) has saved many of my pts from c-section have done 5000+delivery.

just curious if i had pitocin with my first labor and delivery. if i need it again what are the chances of hyperstimulation this second time if it never happened the first time?

Some ideas: Its been a while since I stood by during labor but the routine with Pitocin was always close monitoring by a standby nurse. If a patient was on pit, the pregnancy was always on a fetal monitor that continuously notes the frequency &amp; intensity of contractions. The monitoring allows the nurse to decrease the pit drip or turn it off completely if any hyperstimulation is evident on the monitor.

i am 39+2. scheduled for elective induction. i had an elective induction w/my 2nd & was on pitocin and it didnt work till they broke my water. this babys head isnt down far enough for water break. will pitocin work for 3rd baby? 80 effaced, 3 cm?

: Pitocin augmentation is just giving you a little more than the body does naturally to aid the process. How anyone will responsd is difficult to predict. It sounds like your team is following a standard practice. Good luck.

Generally safe: Pitocin (oxytocin) can make you contract too much. To prevent this, usually it is started at a low dose and increased slowly until the contractions are close enough together to open the cervix. Not everyone needs Pitocin (oxytocin) in labor. It is used when the contractions a woman is having on her own are not opening the cervix.
