Red eye: Recurrent pinkeye may be due to an infection, but it also may have other causes, ranging from dry eye to a bacterial pinkeye.  If this problem is not going away, all your local ophthalmologist and arrange an appointment.

Contacts/allergies?: Most recurrences are related to low grade viral or untreated bacterial eye infections. Certainly other issues which can cause conjunctivitis would be overuse of eye drops, contact lenses and seasonal allergies. Consult your ophthalmologist.

It could be allergy.: Conjunctivitis is the medical terminology of pink eye. "Pink eye" can be from different reasons.   Bacterial pink eye can easily be treated with antibiotic eye drops.  Viral conjunctivitis will self resolve.  Bacterial and viral causes usually don't resolve and then come right back within a week.  Recurrent pink eye most likely due to some form of irritation. Must be exam by a doctor.

i have had pink eye about 6 times since january. i will get rid of it only for it to come back a week later. i have tried numerous drops what do i do?

See Ophthalmologist: Have you been treated by a doctor, or simply used otc drops?  At this point i recommend an eye specialist, an ophthalmologist to do a through exam, possible a culture, and determine what is going on.
A si, ple conjunctivitis should not recur so many times. Get it checked out.

why is my pink eye coming back after i stop my antibiotic/steroid drops for it? what should i do now? i already saw a eye doctor who gave me the drops?

: There are too many possible causes of conjunctivitis (pink eye) to judge the proper treatment, especially when the problem keeps recurring. There are certain systemic medical conditions that can cause recurrent or treatment-resistant conjunctivitis. Keep working with your eye doctor, including questions about possible underlying disorders. Good luck.

for 3 weeks i've had a pink eye/sore throat virus. pink eye was gone for a while but has come back full force. is that normal? how much longer? :(

Have it checked: I think adenovirus when I hear of pink eye/throat issues. This virus can cause eye redness for up to 14 days in some. The virus basically can strip the thin top lining of the eye off leaving it vulnerable to secondary infection/pain. Antibiotics don't help but may be used to reduce a second infection. I would see an MD this week to see what the cause is. Good luck!

my eyes are watery. i see some oily substances on my iris (inside tear film) and they move up when i blink. sometime it was uncomfortable and i needed to wash my eyes to clear it up but it come back shortly. is this viral conjunctivitis?

: Usually with any type of conjunctivitis, including viral, allergic or bacterial, the eye would also be red. The only way to know what is wrong is for a doctor to look at it. You should call your doctor or do a video consult on HealthTap. An in-person eval may be necessary if it is difficult to see on video. Artificial tears may be helpful-1 drop 3-4x daily. If it doesn’t clear up, see your doctor.

once you get pink eye, how long should i stay home before going back to school?

Pink eye: Bacterial conjunctivitis can be appropriately treated with antibiotic eye drops or eye ointment.  I usually recommend keeping the child home until he has received 24 hr to 48 hr of antibiotics.

what should i do for an 8 year old son who has reoccurring allergic pink eye? he was treated it went away and now it is back.

Conjunctivitis: Need to find out what is causing the allergies. Avoidance of the specific allergen if known helps. May try allergy eye drop (antihistamine, mast cell stabilizers). Discuss with his pediatrician
