Assessment: This is most likely a spinal nerve impingement problem and will have to be evaluated .Best to see a neurologist for diagnosis and investigation as to where the offending problem is,usually  spinal disc or vertebral osteophyte related.Other causes could be unrelated to  the spine itself.These would need to be looked for if necessary.Management would be determined by diagnosis

Not much: Besides rest, hope, and prayer.  You might have injured your low back too.  When pain travels like this, it means you have an injury that involves a nerve, like the sciatic nerve.  You need to see a doctor.

Be sure: There could be more worrisome reasons for the swelling, so please have this evaluated by practitioner.  Though nerve irritation from sciatica can impact neurovascular function and contribute to swelling, be certain it is not more worrisome cause.

i have been to the dr recently for a potential pinched nerve/ muscle issue in my left hip, groin and into the knee area. the dr had me start gabapentin + methocarbamol, both cause me anxiety and panic attacks. any natural ideas to treat?

Alternative options: Your doctor did offer accepted treatments. Gabapentin needs to start low and build up,to,therapeutic levels over weeks e.g 100-200mg daily to 600mg 3 x daily.  NSAIDS like ibuprofen are good for your pain. Curcumin 2000mg daily can help the inflammation, stop red meat and corn products (inflammatory), and get an EMG of L leg to determine if this is a spine issue, and  benefit from different Rx.

Could be from back: This sounds like either back pain radiating to the hip or pain from the hip itself.  I would see you primary physician and possibly an orthopedist.

Piriformis: Lumbosacral disc disease can cause pain that radiates into the buttock and down the leg. Compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle in the butt cheek can do the same but pain rarely goes below the knee. There are exercises that help stretch the muscle to take pressure off the nerve. If pain radiate to the foot, see a doctor. Pain can radiate form the hip to knee if tfl is tight. Pt.

Stretching helps: Avoid sitting with wallet in back pocket. Stretching helps.  Sometimes a heel lift is required. A low back adjustment may be necessary as well. If not relief with this or anti inflammatory medications, further testing, such as an x-ray, ct or MRI may be needed.

See your doctor: It could be a nerve problem, but equally it could be a root problem and anything in between.  There are other disorders that could predispose to symptoms such as these, so getting a good history and physical exam would be important to evaluate this completely.

Muscle strain: Depends on what you do.This could be a muscle strain if you are very athletic.  Need to be evaluated by a doc if this persist. If it comes and go,, then it is unlikely to be a nerve issue. The more active , the greater the possiblity of a muscular issue such as a groin strain.See your doc if it persists.
