YES IT TAKES TIME: It may take days to months, as bacteria have to travel up from the vagina to pelvic organs.The commonest causes are sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea and chlamydia and can happen with other bacteria as well
symptoms are fever, pain, foul smelling discharge, pain durin sex andurination, irregular periods
in case of gonorrhea not treated it takes only days and with others may take days to months.

i was treated monday because my bf had contracted gonorrhea.he said i gave it to him.but i had no symptoms. even tho i was treated can still have pid?

Depends: If the treatment is successful and you were also treated for chylamidia, risk of pid will be low.Then unless you get subsequent infection. Considered use of condoms if pregnancy is not intended.

Unlikely : Chlamydia can recur if not treated properly. If you're not sure, get retested.

: What is termed "bacterial vaginosis" (BV) is a localized vaginal overgrowth with typically unpleasant odor, and not "pelvic inflammatory disease" ,which may have more serious implications.  Some antibiotics used to treat BV may also treat "PID", but a repeat culture and an exam by your GYN physician will provide guidance.

caught chlamydia 7/20, treated with doxy 9/10. should i be worried about pid? currently have no symptoms except light fever (37.4). will i be infertile? can pid develop even when im curing chlamydia (during the week?)

Some basics: PID or pelvic inflammatory disease is a descriptive label for the progression of an infection into the tissues of the pelvis. Proper treatment of chlamydia or gonorrhea before they extend into those tissues will stop the progression. Infertility is associated with either germ but most often occurs when the STD is untreated for an extended period. A temp of 37.4 is not fever.

doc gave me 500mg azithromycin x2 daily for 3 days.
will it clear my pid and ill get fine? stomach upset lot?

PID treatment: Azithromycin alone is atypical treatment for PID; usually other antibiotics are used, with or without azithromycin. Azithro indeed can cause stomach upset -- reduced by taking the drug with food. You should have been tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia. If you're getting better, azithro alone may be OK, but check back with doctor (or get second opinion) if not improving after 2-3 days. Good luck.

Unlikely: STD's include a variety of agents some of which may self resolve over time but others do not. Some of the asymptomatic forms of common STD's will quietly lead to your sterility if never treated if they have not already. Ignore these at your own risk.

Unlikely: Chronic untreated chlaymdia infection does lead to pid and infertility, but if you were treated without any recurrence, chances are low.  Recommend however that you seek gyn or primary care if you are concerned.

Confusing question: By definition PID is not asymptomatic. It is an inflammatory process involving internal structures that achieves a significant intensity of symptoms that routinely ends with hospital based treatment.Chlamydia can quietly eat away at the linings of your Fallopian tubes and make you sterile without ever making you that sick.If that is your concern, that is the answer.

Infection: PID is also known as pelvic inflammatory disease and causes a lot of pelvic pain and can be associated with a purulent vaginal discharge or bleeding and fever. Often the abdomen is very tender and you can have pain in the right upper quadrant because of inflammation around the liver ( Fitzhugh- Curtis syndrome). Hope this helps.
