how effective is physical therapy in treating chronic plantar fasciitis?

Depends : PT is one of my primary treatment options for PF. I find about 80% of patients see a benefit. night splinting, good footwear, rest from offending activities and possible orthotics and non-corticosteroid injections such as PRP &amp; amniotic membrane injections are often part of my treatment plan as well. what is usually done for plantar fasciitis? i have it and it is very painful. can't put the heel on the floor. what kind of physical therapy is done?

Inflammation: Soft tissue inflammation is usually treated initially with conservative management. Start wearing supportive shoes at all times during the healing period. RICE therapy and oral anti-inflammatory agents. Massage the sore area, followed with ace bandage compression and elevate limb above hip with knee bent and ice area after activity and before bed. Remove ace before sleep.(RICE)
Orthotic control.

Plantar Fasciitis: Perhaps you will need to be evaluated for another painful heel condition such as stress fracture paget's disease rheumatoid arthritis sickle cell anemia there are several others. Advanced testing such as mris or cats can help.

i have tried many things to try and get rid of my plantar fasciitis. icing my feet, custom orthotics, wearing a stretch sock at night, stretching during the day, physical therapy, cortisone shots, and a walking boot. should i consider surgery?

Fasciitis :  Have you tried an anti inflammatory. If not try Ibuprofen 400 MG twice a day with food for ten days

Start with: Home treatment is shoe inserts as needed ,NSAIDS such as ibuprofen and rolling the foot across frozen water bottle several times a day.If that does not resolve it then see a Podiatrist and may need steroid injections,physical therapy as well as more specialized inserts/shoes and night splints.Last is surgery for severe cases that do not improve.

Plantar Fasciitis: By disrupting the formations of calcification between the plantar ligament and the anterior calcaneus, stimulation of healing occurs when the ligament is not tight.  By relieving the tension on the ligament prevents the tearing of the ligament from the bone when walking and therefor arrests the development of future inflammation and pain which is in effect plantar fasciitis.
