Yes, but ...: If you take nardil, (phenelzine) you need to avoid certain foods and certain medications. In some people, it can lower blood pressure. Otherwise, it is pretty safe.

Somewhat depends: All three have been used for more than 40 years.  Nardil needs to be taken in context of care diet modification, but it works quite well.  Mellaril is an antipsychotic used for years and years, until eli lilly got scared of Geodon (ziprasidone) and forced the fda to study other antipsychotics for qtc changes.  Again, quite safe.  Norpramin is despiramine, one of the first antidepressants; again, used for years.

Very short list: Being an MAO inhibitor, Nardil can cause many interactions with  medicines that would be safe to try otherwise.  Wellbutrin (bupropion) is commonly used to overcome ssri-induced anorgasmia, but isn't safe to use with nardil.   Might you & your doctor consider reducing your Nardil dose to see if this helps, but doesn't cause your other symptoms to return?  I hope my colleagues will have additional ideas . .

Maybe.: Every individual is different.  One medication may be more effective for one person, but not another.  Celexa and Nardil (phenelzine) are in different classes.  The former is an SSRI and the latter an MAOI.  The former has tranquilizer properties and the latter does not.

Antidepressant: Nardil (phenelzine) aka Phenelzine is an antidepressant called MAO inhibitors which increase norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. Requires careful monitoring and has dietary restrictions. Eating cheese, yogurt, dry sausage, liver, sauerkraut, chocolate, caffeine  or drinking alcohol or non-alcoholic beer or wine may cause a hypertensive crisis. Many medications should also be avoided. Talk to your doctor.

Yep, help available: Every medication contains chemicals that can cause adverse reactions in our body. Some side effects are physical--nausea or blurred vision, while others can adversely affect our mood and emotions.

MAOI’s affect numerous bodily functions, stopping Nardil (phenelzine) incorrectly can adversely affect many areas simultaneously. Gradual dose reduction ( tapering), reduces withdrawal. Do not use SSRI for 2 wks +.

No, but ...: Generally speaking, this is an important contraindication. The combination can suddenly increase your blood pressure. On the other hand, some skilled doctors are using the combination for treatment resistant depression, for injectable headaches etc. Ask your doctor if he has any experience with this first.

Several options: There are a number of worthwhile meds that can facilitate improved social interaction w/ less anxiety. It takes more than meds though- you need a plan, you prob need expert counsel, & most especially u need lots of opportunity to "practice" being social. Do things with a social context- regularly! and, it may require >1med; getting the right med doses & multi-drug regimen is crucial & an expert md.
