i had a colonoscopy 4 days ago and l'm getting pain inside my rectum and a bit of mucus leaking. previously had a perirectal abcess where the pain is.

Possible recurrence: Colonoscopy requires cleaning of bowel with a form of laxative followed by distention of bowel by forcing gas up the rectum.  If there was a previous abscess the new signs may represent recurrence of the abscess and this followed by passage of residual irrigant used to clean bowel.

Peritoneal lining: The peritoneum is a thin cellular lining that lines the inner abdominal wall and all of the organs and bowel loops within the abdomen and pelvis. It can become thickened for a variety of reasons, such as related to infection, inflammation, fibrosis, infarction, trauma, response to medication or chemotherapy, or cancer. The CT appearance of thickened peritoneal reflections by itself is nonspecific.

my husband has a perirectal abscess and has been to the dr.  they gave him meds but it don't seem to be helping.  how can we get it to open ?

Needs to be opened: Sounds like he needs to see a surgeon.  Might try epsom salt soaks in the interim.

Not really: I see this fairly often, in fact.  Hemorrhoids can cause pain, but it's usually an anal fissure that causes the long term pain like you are describing.  It takes a visit to a surgeon to diagnose it.   Either is easily treated.

had perirectal abscess that cleared on iv antibotics. dr said they were going to find crohn's but scopes were clear. could inflamation show on biopies?

Not necessary: Perirectal abcess beging a infection in the anal crypts and spread outward.  It's surprising that antibiotic cleared it, it usually need to be surgically drained, it may reoccur w/o drainage

barium enema after a perirectal abscess surgery, what do you recommend?

Enema is needed: Barium is probably not the contrast media I would choose. I would perform . I would choose a water soluble media. Just in case the cause of the abscess was a hole in the bowel. Better to have water soluble contrast rather than barium. As always best to talk to the doctors

missed fourth infusion of remicade (infliximab)  for uc by 2 weeks. waiting for perirectal abscess to heal.  can i postpone infusion by another week?

Yes! Crohn's: And yes.  You need to heal your abscess! nobody in rheumatology or gastroenterology would recommend you do this!

Inflammation: Abscess is the result of acute suppurative inflammation and inflammation produces, pain, swelling, redness, local warmth and loss of function of the affected part.  There may be fever, malaise etc. Depending on the location and size of the abscess.

Accepted Answer

Only sometimes: A skin abscess is an infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissues with central liquid pus formation. Many skin abscesses can be cured with incision and drainage alone. Most skin abscesses are caused by the bacteria staphylococcus aureus.   If it is MRSA septra/bactrim or Doxycycline are the usual oral antibiotics used. If mssa oral dicloxicillin or Keflex are often used.
