how to stop feeling nausea if caused by gastritis? i took pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) and did not work.

Options: There are many options to treat your nausea from gastritis.  Pepto is one option.  You should be on an H2 blocker or a proton pump inhibitor to heal the gastritis.  In addition you can try any OTC nausea med.  If you have a pcp you can ask for zofran (ondansetron) as needed.

: Sometimes when nausea is accompanied by pain, I've found that zofran may not be so effective. Most importantly, is gastritis the accurate diagnosis? You could try peppermint. I all else fails, I recommend going back to the ER where you'll be reexamined and could get an injection with old fashioned  compazine

i had the basic symptoms of gastritis (but could have been caused by pepto bismol, & the next day, i think i had black stools- not sure. the next day stools mainly brown w' bits of black & then diarrhea. now, diarrhea & blood on tp.what should i do?

: Peptobismol is good for treating gastritis caused by H.Pylori but itself causes black stools. You have to differentiate this from the black loose stools "tarry stools" which are caused by gastric bleeding. If you have visible blood in the stool, most likely this is lower GI bleeding, coming from the colorectum or anus. Persistent symptoms warrant endoscopy/colonscopy.

gastritis/food poisoning what to take and eat.  i believe i ate seafood last friday which caused this.  i've been taking tylenol, pepto, prilosec?

Food poisoning : Since last Friday after eating seafood it is probably a food poisoning. If you have diarrhea that suggest food poisoning since you do not get diarrhea with gastritis. If there is blood in a loose stool you need a culture from the stool. Food poisoning goes away on its own  within days to weeks. See your doctor for an evaluation.

29yr old male w/ gastritis for 10mo's, mild inflam. cause? overeating at consecutive buffets w/ alc? ~3drinks/wk. no drugs/prescripts. gi dr. says not stress. not h. pyl, not hiv. endoscopy & ct scan revealed nothing serious. ppis & pepto not working?

: You don't describe your symptoms. Did the endoscopy show inflammation of the stomach lining?  If so when was it performed? If it was months ago should it be repeated?  Are you taking the PPI in the morning before eating so as to prevent acid secretion by your stomach? Are you on maximal dose?  Do you feel stressed?  Do you take NSAID' s like advil or aleve?  Should you seek a second opinion?

Budesonide or: Others. Follow up with your gastroenterologist.

can i take pepto bismol, omeprezol and alka selzer together?

No: Both pepto bishop and alka seltzer contain aspirin which could be toxic. Use the Omeprazole with 1 or the other. Take the correct dose. All the best!

Safe: There is nothing in this that will degrade in a dangerous manner.  You may safely drink pepto bismol that is several years expired.

i took a dose of pepto bismol but found out it had been left in the car & it had been 98 degrees, will i be ok?
