See below: Penicillin acts by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis during cell replication. In strep. Throat the penicillin only causes a slight decrease in the length of the usually self limited iiiness but prevents suppurative complications and immune sequella ie. Rheumatic fever and possibly glomerulnephritis.  With other strep. Infections it takes longer than 2 days for improvement.

strep infection: &gt; 25% f cummunity acquired strep  can be pcn resistant. Your doctor needs a culture from the infection site; the results from this culture will then show which antibiotic best kills the strep bacteria that is causing your symptoms.   While taking antibiotics, it is also a good idea to take probiotics, which will help protect your gut from losing all the good bacteria wiped out by the antibiotic.

Most people : start to feel better after 5-7 days of antibiotics (and you're on the correct antibiotic). if you still don't feel better then see your doctor again to make sure nothing else is wrong like a developing abcess or a different infection requiring different antibiotics.

Depending on the thpe of infection you have, it may have developed into something that requires further intervention such as intravenous antibiotics, or else a drainage procedure of abscess. Regardless, prompt attention is needed, to minimize complications.

Strep: If indeed a strep throat you  should get relief in 24 hrs. However if not a strep throat the antibiotic will not help at all. It is unlikely that there is resistance involved.

Finish the course: Finish the course of antibiotics, and keep the faith that they will take care of the problem. Return to your MD for examination after the meds are finished to be certain the infection is gone.

Multiple issues: eg: 1. multiple forms of PCN, 2. single injection vs. continued dosing, IM, IV or oral, 3. dosage used, 4. sensitivity/resistance of the bacteria to PCN, 5. accuracy of the diagnosis of Strep. vs. other basis. 6. Commonly takes some time (a couple of days?) for antibiotic to suppress growth/kill-off enough bacteria to greatly ease of your immune system to finish job 7. Your immune system status, etc.

Strep: Hello, the numbers you are describing are not considered a fever.  In general 100.4 and greater is considered a fever.  The number you are describing is a normal variation of day to day temperatures.  If you are feeling ill or are not improving please get checked out.
