Your doctor needs a culture from the infection site; the results from this culture will then show which antibiotic best kills the strep bacteria that is causing your symptoms. While taking antibiotics, it is also a good idea to take probiotics, which will help protect your gut from losing all the good bacteria wiped out by the antibiotic.
