i take paxil (paroxetine) and clonazepam and i have cold/flu i need medicine but the only thing recommended is mucinex dm which never worked for me! is there anything else i can take that is safe less side effects?

Try topicals: The only interaction between OTC cold medicines and paroxetine is the increased risk for serotonin syndrome (rare).  If you have a history of this syndrome or any others - I'd call your doctor.  In the meantime - I'd suggest an intranasal spray (Nasacort) and Chloraseptic Max throat drops to treat the symptoms. DayQuil should be ok - but check with your doctor since they know your history. G'luck!

Kinda sorta: Not to be rude but this question really should be asked of your prescribing doc ; dispensing pharmacist. They need to know everything you're taking. For instance, there's an interaction btwn Paxil (paroxetine) ; klonopin! check out http://www.Drugs.Com/interactions-check.Php?Drug_list=2312-11214, 703-357, 1800-1156 for info on all 3 together. In general, you can take either w/benefiber (lots of variations).

why is it advised to be careful with grapefruit on some meds like clonazepam and paxil (paroxetine) too i think?

Drug  food interacts: Grapefruits utilize the same metabolic pathway that some medications use.  This isoenzyme is located in your gut.  If the grapefruit is occupying the enzyme, the drug can not be effectively metabolized. The drugs levels will rise in the blood stream and side effects are more likely to occur.  In the case of clonazepam , increased sedation and cognitive skills can be greatly affected.

is it ok to half clonazepam and paxil (paroxetine) (twice) using a pill cutter? i halfed it once and halfed it again.  still effective? or ask for a lower dose now

Treatment plan: confirm with your MD how to decrease or taper medication. its unlikely that it would be physically harmful to you but its possible that lower doses will be less effective. if you are stopping medication altogether then get instructions on tapering. paxil (paroxetine) is notorious for having withdrawal side effects - best to make slow changes. clonazepam can also be hard to stop and needs to be done slowly.

Allergic reaction.: any drug can cause allergic reaction, causing itching.

i don't intend on taking anxiety/ depr. meds long term. side effects concern me. will i be ok? is klonopin and paxil (paroxetine) very strong compared to others?

You should be fine: Make sure that you are also in psychotherapy, that you get plenty of exercise.  Make sure that you keep a strong social support network. Never stop your medications without discussing your physician's plans for you and also make sure you understand that you need to come off of them that they are tapered extremely slowly. Both clonopin and Paxil (paroxetine) must be tapered very slowly.

how possible is it to get off klonopin and paxil (paroxetine) without rehab just psych therapy? i've been having trouble, on for less than 1 yr but very motivated.

Depends: On your symptoms. Work closely with your counselors and Psychiatriast and counselor and report any increase or rebound of symptoms with medication tapering

A couple suggestions: Are you actually looking to transition to another drug or are you trying to come off all together? You could try transitioning to citalopram which doesn't tend to be as difficult to stop as Paxil (paroxetine) but is related enough that you should still have some relief of your mental symptoms. Another one to consider transitioning to would be sertraline. Weight gain isn't that big an issue with either of those

i was on paxil (paroxetine) & buspa, it work ok only had drowsiness. dr put me on klonopin .05mg & remeron 15mg, im concern about the side affects. i have low bp?

Med. adjustment.: Drowsiness is a common side effects with Paxil, (paroxetine) Klonopin and Remeron. They can also lower blood pressure. Your doctor could adjust the doses and  time schedule in taking the medications to avoid the side-effects .

was on clonazepam 0.5 mg for 17 mos. paxil (paroxetine) 20 mg for 10 mos. zoloft 25 mg for 8 mos. how long r half life's of these pls? unexplained flashes of light

Are you weaning?: Are you going off or thinking about stopping,these meds?  First, only do this with your doctor's guidance.  The actual half life of the meds may not actually predict how  quickly you should,wean or what you will experience.  It is usually increased anxiety.  However, a small group of my patients have reported flashes of light while on Paxil (paroxetine).  You may want to look at that med as a possible cause.
