Yes. : Acute means "short term". Chronic means "long term". Wait long enough and if something doesn't get better, acute becomes chronic. Over what period of time different diseases become chronic varies.

???: If you go to ED I am sure the doctors will help you to deal with it.  Depending on the severity - if mild you could try dietary changes like no alcohol, no smoking, no spicy or greasy foods for a bit.  Choose more easily digestable items- bananas, cracker, bread and clear liquids to see if you get relief.  In addition OTC Maalox or Zantac (ranitidine) may be helpful but do not choose meds over diet change.

Yes: Gastritis is a disease of habits.  It is important to talk to your physician or Gastroenterologist to find out what habits you need to change.  Common triggers are:  tobacco, alcohol, soda, coffee, tomato based foods, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Naprosyn), skipping meals, and chocolate.  If any of these are things you do every day, stop doing them and you will feel better!

is it normal to have acute gastritis during the beginning of pregnancy?

Pregnancy Norms: Nope. This is not a common condition associated with early pregnancy. If you are not improving you may want to see attention at the doctor's office.

Also remember that all pregnant females are advised by their OB to have a prenatal book. Some even provide this to their patients.  Consulting this book about all of the things that occur when pregnant can alleviate much unnecessary worry.

Check with your doc: After 6 months it is not acute anymore. 

Congratulations: you stopped smoking!

you want to check with your doc to be safe. He/she may recommend a gastroscopy.

i have acute gastritis. when it flares up, it hits hard and is very painful. i have been given an acid blocker for a week to treat this. however, i've heard of severe acid rebound when going off them. will this happen to me? or is a week too little?

: Minimize triggers like spicy foods, caffeine,alcohol,nicotine,aspirin,anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen, stress.  Severe gastritis may need treatment for a few weeks, then taper off them slowly to avoid rebound.  If it's a ppi you're taking, you can switch to famotidine for a week or so afterward. A gastroenterologist can advise you as needed.

Delayed periods.: Gastritis does not have anything to do with delayed periods. Two different system and two different problems.
Look for a different cause for the delayed periods based upon the clinical situation.

Difference between 2: Acute gastritis refers to sudden inflammation in the wall of the stomach. It is most commonly caused by medications (NSAIDS), infection (H. Pylori) or excessive alcohol consumption. Pain is often in the upper abdomen.   Inflammation from gallstones (cholecystitis) usually causes pain in the right upper abdomen, under the ribs. Pain is worst after eating fatty meals. Speak to your doc.

the dr said it was acute gastritis causing acid reflux with inflamed liver. how can gastritis inflame the liver? dr said that was what happened.

Hard to say: Gastritis does not usually inflame the liver, but it is possible you have liver enzyme abnormalities and may need to be evaluated for hepatitis or gallbladder problems.  You may also have gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) with or without gastritis.  I suggest that you talk with your doctor again to clarify things since they know the whole story.

how long does it take for acute gastritis to heal... my doctor prescribed zantac (ranitidine)... i take it twice a day.

More info: it depends on what caused the gastritis. did your doctor check for h pylori infection, or do endoscopy? Usually over-the-counter Nexium (esomeprazole) would be stronger than Zantac. When properly diagnosed and treated, gastritis usually resolves within a month or so.
