ERCP: Stones may form within intrahepatic bile ducts that are present within the liver.  An ERCP is an endoscopic procedure that can sometimes remove these stones.  If unsuccessful, surgery may be warranted.

Choledocholithiasis: Big word.  The liver has bile ducts which drain into the gallbladder and the small bowel.  The bile helps with digestion. It is possible to form stones within the bile ducts of the liver.  These stones can cause pain in the right upper abdomen.  They can also block the drainage of bile, leading to jaundice or infection.

Gallstones: Can pass in the stool but they don't pass in the urine. The gallbladder connects to the small bowel via the cystic/common hepatic ducts. Stones can pass into the small bowel and then into the colon and, as such, pass in the stool. Kidney stones pass via the ureters and bladder and have no communication with the bowel.

Need follow-up: While some of the liver cysts are benign needing mostly tight follow-up, some others need special attention. Either way you will need a gastroenterologist for follow-up and further decision of when would be the best time to get it drained.

If the CT: was performed with a specific protocol to assess for kidney stones, it is probably more accurate than the ultrasound.  Other entities in the kidneys can mimic small stones on ultrasound, such as blood vessels and small fat deposits.

Your question is..?: Often small stones break up into sand like particles and you won't see the stone. The severe pain was the stone passing.Once the pain is  gone (and doesn't come back),it means the stone has passed into the bladder where it may break up or pass through the urethra which is painless.

Please clarify: Gallstones do not form or go to the liver.  The best test to check for gallstones in the gallbladder is an ultrasound.  The best test to check for gallstones in the bile duct is an MRI of the bile duct (mrcp); alternatively, a GI doctor can access the bile duct thru the mouth by endoscopy (ercp); if a bile duct stone is present, (s)he can remove it at the same time.

Diet,cholecystectomy: Low fat diet is the usual recommendation for fatty liver and to avoid pain from gallbladder contractions. But a prolonged period of fasting or or severe dieting leads to lack of emptying of the gallbladder which leads to stasis of bile and gallstones. You need to be on a strict diet to lose weight to reverse fatty liver changes ( primary indication for liver transplant in usa) . Get the gb out.

No: Although it is possible to form stones in the bile ducts of your liver, this is very very rare.
