If the result is atypical cells, that can be caused by many reasons such as, recent intercourse, infection, pregnancy, or technical error.  If you are positive for high risk HPV, this is not due to miscarriage.  HPV is a sexually transmitted virus, that can cause abnormal pap results.

got pap smear test results & it came back negative for pre cancer & cancerous cells which is great. but i did see that it said areas of partially obscuring inflammatory exudate are present is this concerning? had a d&c march 9th from miscarriage?

: Inflammation on Pap smear is so common it can be considered a normal finding. In some cases it can indicate cervicitis and/or various infections, including STDs. If at STD risk, it's a good idea to be tested. Either way, ask your gynecologist:  what she observed (or didn't observe) on your cervix when collecting the pap specimen is the most important thing in judging these issues.

Unsure: Chlamydia would make the cervix sensitive, friable, and possibly painful or tender.  A miscarriage is not likely to affect the cervix that way.

Very very rare: A normal screening PAP should not cause any significant damage to any structures. It is a mild scraping or brushing of the ecto-cervix,  outside ,and not the canal or endo, inside structures. A PAP smear is indicated as part of a routine exam for pregnancy. Normally at a pregnancy exam a PAP, cultures of the vagina and cervix are taken. One should refrain from alcohol and tobacco. Good luck.

Possibly: There  are  different types of  abnormal pap smears.  Some abnormala like lgsil or hgsil  are associated  with the  hpv  or the human papilloma virus.  Others  paps  smears  are ascus ( atypical ) and  may  or  may  not have hpv present.  A very  recent miscarriage with  bleeding  or  inflammation present may result in an atypical  pap at times. If  no hpv is present  the  pap can be repeated.
