Serious Rx: This sounds like at least moderately severe acne, a major liability. You're not going to be able to manage it successfully without your physician's help. Start yourself on topical benzoyl peroxide and/or topical retinoic acid and make an appointment. If you are offered isotretinoin, remember that despite all the internet "scare" stuff, most people who use it are extremely satisfied.

Cyst: A cyst represents a bag filled with a cheesy material.  The only effective way to permanently remove this is to have your doctor surgically excise it.  Opening and draining cysts will only temporarily shrink the size of the lesion, but it almost always returns.

Have it checked: should have it looked at by a medical provider. a large painful swollwn area may indicate a cellilitis or early abscess. Is it warm?draining?red? all signs of an absecess that may need to be drained. also may be due to bacyeria on the skin such as Staph ( including MRSA) or Strep. MRSA tends to be more aggressive and may result in multiple abscesses requiring treatment with antibiotics.

: Where is this pimple located? Is it a single pimple or are their multiple pimples? If the pimple is located on your face/chest/arms/legs, it could be due to acne. If it is located in your genital area and you are sexually active, it could be a sexually transmitted infection, like herpes. So, you may need to see a doctor, perhaps a dermatologist, depending on where the pimple is located. Good luck!

FoliculitisORherpes: It is not uncommon to get a pimple or several of them in the public area due to clogged hair follicles, especially if you shave that area.  However, if you have a history of unprotected sex you are at risk for genital herpes, which can also cause a similar symptoms. Try warm compresses and ibuprofen.  If your symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention asap. Take Care!
