i'm a gymnast and i have a painful, bony bump on the top of my foot. it goes away sometimes but when it is there it hurts to flex, walk and touch it.

Ganglion cyst: Likely this is a ganglion cyst with the history of coming and going.  It is fluid pushed out of the joint that forms a cyst.  The more inflamed the joint, the more fluid is produced and the bigger the cyst.  It can cause tension on nearby nerves contributing to the pain you are feeling.

Neuroma?: This could be a ganglionic cyst or a mass of nerve fibers called Mortons neuroma. Please speak to your doctor who can then examine and organize an ultrasound scan of your foot to identify the cause of the pain

Ganglionic cyst: "Bump on the top of the foot," can be a ganglionic cyst often caused by tears in the tendon membrane or joint capsules lets contents  squeeze out. They aren't cancerous, and In many cases go away by themselves.  There COULD be other conditions resulting in a lump on the dorsal (top of) foot. Don't know duration, pain, color, temperature. Lots of unknowns. See a doc -

Insect bites?: Could be insect bites. Check your bedclothes and do not squeeze the bumps. The next step is to have someone at urgent care check them out so you can receive the proper medication

Feel for 48 hours: You have at least bruised the soft tissue. Ice  for 48 hours. Ice on off for two days.  If continued difficulty and pain seek medical attention.

It depends: In order to give you a better answer you need to describe the bumps or better send a photo. How big are they? Do they itch? What color?
The bumps can range from a response to pressure from socks or the shoe (pressure) to a number of skin problems.

Foot rash: could be alot of things, should be examined by a podiatrist. Could be a dermatitis, heat rash, athlete's foot infection. A history and examination would be in order to diagnosis this.

Foot injury: Foot injuries tend to take a long time to heal. You may have a left over hematoma, or blood clot. Not dangerous. Could also be a ruptured tendon, or scar tissue from a torn ligament, and even the healing tissue of a broken bone. If it's bothering you, and/or you're concerned, see a foot and ankle specialist (orthopedics), or a podiatrist for a more complete evaluation. Hope this helps!
