Many possibilities: Bumps under the skin could be as a result of different reasons of which could include an ingrown hair, acne, abscess, or an allergic reaction to various things like detergents or soaps or to medications.  Have it evaluated by your physician to get the appropriate treatment.

Otitis externa: Have you been swimming recently?  It might be a swimmer's ear (otitis externa) which is a local skin infection of the ear canal.  It could also just be a skin infection formed by clogged pore, kind of like a small abscess.  I would apply a topical antibiotic like neosporin to the area 3x/day.  If it is not improving then you should see the doctor.

Swimmer's ear: Mandy, this sounds like Swimmer's ears which means some sort of infection or inflammation in the outer ear canal. You need an ear drop with antibiotic and steroid in it. May have infection: It is possible that popping the bump allowed the area to become infected. If the aching doesn't go away or if you have redness, warmth, or severe tenderness in the area, you should see a doctor to be evaluated for an infection. If the aching is mild and goes away within an hour or two of when the bump was popped, it is more likely just related to irritation from when she popped it.

Red bump in ears: A red bump might mean an abscess or infection. Rush to have this treated because if it involves the cartilage, this can spread and destroy the cartilage and you end up with a horribly deformed ear. This is an emergency if it involves the cartilage. Do not put heat on it.
