i have bilateral pain in my calves and achilles' tendons. waves of pain in my calves 1-8 on pain scale. tendons are tender to touch. ideas?

May: Have achilles tendonitis. This can be caused by over use. I suggest you see a podiatrist.

for the past several months, my ankles around achilles tendons have been sore. its not painful, but it always feels hot. i started adult ballet last summer (3x/week). are they inflamed? what can i do to relieve it? which doctor should i see?

: Here in the USA a podiatrist or MD or DO would be seen. Try stretching your calves with knee straight. Strengthening with toe raising exercises   Icing after activity

pain in achilles tendon getting worse espcially in the morning and after resting. there is now a small lump on the achilles tendon  above the heel that is very tender to touch. what should i do? i am a spanish dancer?

Injury: An Achilles tendon tear or even rupture is not uncommon in athletes, dancers, and even regular folks doing routine exercise.  See an orthopedic surgeon.  Put your dancing on hold until this is stabilized.

58y/o female- sore, warm to the touch, quarter sized lumps below her achilles' tendon. will call doc monday if not gone, but could this be gout?

Is it possible? Yes: Does it sound like it? Not really. First off that's not really a joint area and gout usually affects joints. Without seeing the lumps it is hard to take a guess....I am it sure why hey would "disappear" by Monday.....if there is anyway you can show us a picture that would be helpful in us helping you.

heard a snapping/popping noise at the back of the heel (near the achilles tendon), felt sudden pain but it went away immediately but feels sore now. no problem moving the ankle, no swelling or redness, the area is fine to touch as well, but worried?

: When you hear a snapping sound it is usually a tendon sliding over bone making a sound. Impossible to determine your extent of your injury. Good signs are no swelling or discoloration. But having pain you did some damage. Rest allowing it to heal. If this continues seek medical treatment

: Chronic Achilles tendinitis can develop  into a chronic painful condition if not treated. You need a structured stretching and strengthening program.

Achilles tendinitis.: Tendinitis is an inflammatory condition that responds to relative rest, ice, antiinflammatories. If present for greater than 6 weeks probably represents tendinosis or disease of the tendon. If tendinosis effects tendon between calf and heel usually responds to an eccentric loading program. If at the heel usually doesn't  respond. Other nonsurgical options: gassion massage, prolotherapy, prp.

i have a sore achilles tendon from running. do i risk serious injury if i keep running?  is rest the best treatment?  for how long?

Accepted Answer

Yes: If at is hurting rest it. Listen to you body when having pain. However, don't listen to your Achilles when not hurting. Meaning, when returning to running go gradually: do  rest, tylenol, (acetaminophen) masssage, may be pt then do graudal return to activity-> walk, then faster walk, short jogging (on grass, threadmill), then run and advance distant and intensity carefully..  Do proper warm up, streach, & rest.
