Bursitis: Trochanteric bursitis or inflammation of the the fluid filled sack over the hip bone (greater trochanter) is a common cause of lateral hip pain in runners. If stretching and anti-inflammatory medications have not helped, you should get a steroid injection. You r primary care doc can do this or if they are not comfortable with it, get a referral to pain management.

Exam: get examined and diagnosed. I would suggest OTC NSAIDS like Advil or Aleve (naproxen) if not allergic to these; however, a medical examination is imperative to make a diagnosis.

Hospital?: It would be uncommon to spend a week in the hospital with hip pain.  The good news is that the work up did not find anything serious.  This is likely a muscular problem or even synovitis that will improve with time.  Unfortunately we really cannot help since your symptoms are very general and do not have the results of your tests.

Possible: Many factors can worsen the symptoms of ibs, your nutrition and stress are two big ones.  3 drinks a night could possibly worsen the symptoms of ibs and will definitely cause other problems with your health.  The best approach is to cut back on your drinking and see if your symptoms improve.  If you are honestly having 3 drinks every night, cut back on your alcohol intake slowly.

Sprain/Strain: There are many potential causes of acute low back pain.  The most common are sprain/strain injuries.  Usually acute back pain will improve over 1-2 weeks with anti-inflammatories, gentle streching, and use of heat/ice.  If your pain does not improve or gets worse you should contact your physician.

Bursitis: Could be a lot of things from your hips to your spine.  One thing you mentioned was on both sides of hips ; that your things feel swollen.  This could be sign of a bursitis on the sides of the hips area where you leg bone (femur) meets your hip joint.  Physical therapy is first prescribed to strengthen muscles and then many consider medications or injections to help alleviate the inflammation.
