Could be : Meralgia paresthetica, a nerve compression at the lateral hip affecting the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.  Might be caused by tight belt or clothing.  Once called "gunfighter's neuropathy".

Orthopedic: History too abbreviated to begin to diagnose.  See an osteopath for direction.  Sciatica has some of these qualities, but sciatica is a pain pattern with many different causes.

Sciatica: There are multiple potential causes, but among the most common is a sciatica.  This condition is characterized by an irritation if a nerve in the back causing pain that often runs from the hip to the foot.  Sciatica does not traditionally cause popping in the knee, so you may have some issues with the knee as well.  Don't hesitate to be seen.

i have a really dull painful sensation in my right leg from the top of my kneecap to behind my knee which pops aswell and the pain extends to hip?

Injury?: It appears to be from a recent injury. If it is not helped by NSAIDs, gets much worse,  or fails to improve significantly after 2 weeks, you will need to consult your doctor or an orthopedic surgeon.

Pinched nerve: This sounds like a pinched nerve in your spine.  Without a neurology exam, i can't tell you which nerve root, but almost certainly it is in the lumbar spine.  A visit to the neurologist and an l-spine MRI would likely be indicated.  There are often good medications available for this type of pain.

Muscle wasting?: My first thought is that you have a muscle imbalance, and weaker muscles on the left side. Need to ask your physician to have you checked for this.
