Toe pain: You should show to your Dr and give more details such as when does it come on, what makes it better, what new exercise have you been doing. are you wearing high heels a lot?  So you can find out what is causing this. Then you will know what to do.

Do easiest first.: There is a whole host of possible reasons why you are experiencing foot pain and swelling. Without question,  improperly fitting shoes is a distinct possibility and at the top of the list. Why not test your theory and stop wearing your dress shoes for a while. I have a feeling that relief is at hand.

Joint pain: needs to be evaluated by your doctor.  It could be anything from gout or something more involved.  Please get a diagnosis and you will be able to treat it as needed.  Peace and good health.

Specialist: Seeing a podiatrist or a foot & ankle orthopedic specialist would be a good choice. They both have unique knowledge of the foot and ankle.  Either way, xrays, bloodwork and a good examination should help you in getting a diagnosis and treatment to help!

i have lateral foot pain. there is some bruising and swelling it hurts when im resting and walking. should i get an xray? i have been doing the rice method but that doesn't seem to work. what could be the cause of this?

Yes: An evaluation and x ray may be obtained by seeing urgent care or your PCP. To rule out a fracture, please have an x ray. Apply local ice, take Motrin for pain and elevate your foot.

i was dancing the other day and i somehow bent my bit toe the wrong way and it keeps like cramping up now. no swelling or bruising. just pain in foot.

Toe pain: It's possible there was a tendon or ligament injury around the joint, which is very common in dancers.  If it doesn't subside I recommend getting an exam for the proper diagnosis and treatment if needed.

X-ray time: With persisting pain two days after a significant blow to the foot, see an urgent care for an X-ray series.

Until then, rest, ice, compression with an ACE bandage, crutches to limit weight bearing, and anti-inflammatory medicine such as Motrin (if you can take it) will help.

Sometimes: We can even twist our foot in bed or even unknowingly . Also varicose veins can cause it if you have deep ones, but you would usually have smaller ones on the surface. If both sides were swelling the causes would be more in number but much more limited since one sided.. Apply ice or heat and try Ibuprofen or aleve, (naproxen) limit salt and elevate the leg. An ace wrap might help too.

could a knee bandage cause ankle and foot swelling?

Yes, if too tight: If you wrap your knee too tight which prevents the blood/lymph from returning from the foot/leg to your heart, yes you can have swelling.
If you remove the wrapping and the swelling gets better, you got your anwswer.
If the swelling is persistent and/or if you have pain in the leg, calf etc...Consult doc because you may have a blood clot etc...
