For active suicide thoughts with a strong urge please be seen at your nearest er. Follow on psychological/ psychiatric care is important.

Too much: of any medicine is not good. Please if you are having these thoughts consult your doctor ASAP or call a depression hotline. I am concerned about your wellness . Zyrtec can make you drowsy. Do not take more than 10 mg at a time!  If your allergies are still raging, try a nasal steroid. Never use Afrin; it is addictive.  Good health. Be safe.

Not much: Allergy medications such as Claritin, Allegra and Zyrtec work by blocking antihistamine which is not part of the cold/respiratory infection process so not much help.  Older antihistamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may help some with irritant cough and sleep from drowsy side effect.  Decongestants such as Sudafed may help relieve some of the nasal congestion but avoid in children

Many to choose from: The most effective treatment for nasal allergies is the topical nasal steroid sprays (qnasl, flonase, nasonex, (mometasone) etc)--they are available by prescription.  For over the counter allergy medications, new generation antihistamines such as claritin, zyrtec, and Allegra are helpful.  These also come with the decongestant that is sudafed.   The best long term treatment for allergies is allergy shots!

Dog allergy: The treatment of pet dander allergy includes: 1. Avoidance--keep dog out of bedroom and preferably out of house; wash dog at least weekly, use hepa air cleaners in house. 
2. Medication: daily use of an antihistamine (zyrtec, claritin, allegra, clarinex, xyzal) may decrease some symptoms.  Topical nasal steroids are most effective (qnasl, flonase, etc).
3. Allergy injections: best longterm option.

Allergy shots: Allergy medications will not take you a long way if you want to live with a cat. I suggest you see an allergist, get tested then get allergy shots for cats before you get one.

Allergic Reaction?: You may have a dry skin condition and/or an allergic reaction. Products without fragrance are best and avoid irritating substances on the skin. An over the counter antihistamine may be used for 48 hours. If there is no relief or persistent symptoms please see your Physician.
