i was with an orthoped this week and he advised convservative therapy (no operation).are there any risks with this approach (instability in future).

Conservative: It depends.  Your doctor knows your case the best.  He or she likely feels that conservative treatment may yield the best results for now.  For example, a person with back pain and a herniated disc often benefits from anti-inflammatory medicine and physical therapy-- this is usually tried before surgery.  Doctors will often try a less risky therapy before a more risky therapy.

i've complete torn atfl.last injury 9,wks ago.still hurts to walk and swells up.should it be braced/cast/bandage while i wait for orthoped appointment

Torn ATFL: Ankle sprains often result in a torn ATFL. Initial treatment for ankle sprains is rest, ice, compression and elevation (RICE). After 10-14 days of this, symptoms should improve. Physical therapy is useful to restore ankle motion and strength.  In your case, pain and swelling has persisted and may indicate other problems, like cartilage injury. Recommend immobilization to protect the ankle.

can an orthopedic doctor order xrays before seeing the patient in wa state i understand in ca that a doctor cannot order xrays before physically examing the patient, however, i am new in my role and see value in patient flow in our facility if the orthope

Usually : Usually physicians can order an x-ray without examining the patient immediately before.  It may be helpful to call the washington state medical board to be sure, but in most states an x-ay can be ordered without seeing a patient.  Obviously there should be some type of assessment of the patient, and it must be ascertained that the patient is not pregnant.

Rest: Pain of sternoclavicular subluxation is best treated by rest and with hope that the joint will stabilize.  If it does not regain a stable neutral station, then prolotherapy might be a consideration.

What does that mean?: Your metatarsals are on top of each other? An xray should be able to rule out a fractured metatarsal. Especially, if combined with a clinical exam.

how do you use ortho tricyclin?

As directed: Ortho tri-cyclen is an oral contraceptive (ocp), otherwise known as a birth control pill (bcp). Regardless, it is taken by mouth daily. It is very important to take the pills in the proper sequence in order to keep from getting pregnant. It's also important to take them at about the same time daily. Ideally, you should take all your medications as directed by your physician.

Night time treatment: These are lenses used in moderate amounts of myopia to remold the cornea which reduces the myopia.  The lenses used are slightly uncomfortable but the effect is useful.  However to maintain the remolded shape, a night time lens is required for extended periods .  It is sort of trading the ordinary wearing of a contact lens during the day for a "keeper" at night.

: After orchiopexy the testis should lie in a normal position in the scrotum hanging vertically from the cord. If it is not go back to the Urologist for exam and explanation.
