i have this red patch on my tongue, its got a small crack. ive treated it with otc meds like glycerine and somthing for mouth ulcers. its very painful and burns when i eat any foods. 
ive been to a gp who said it could be thrush, however it is not?

Oral thrush: can sometimes spread to the roof of the mouth and the back of the throat. In many cases oral thrush does not cause any serious problem. The physician can diagnose oral thrush by looking into your mouth and taking history of present illness. Prescription of the anti-thrush drugs will solve the problem. If left untreated it will  get worse. Take care.

They are caused by recurrences of herpes virus, which lives in the nerves after an initial infection, and then travel down the nerves to cause the cold sores at the skin surface from time to time. Sores on the inside of the mouth can be canker sores, due to the immune system reacting to something on the inside of the mouth; or can be viral ulcers, etc...

Aphthous ulcers: Mouth ulcers are precipitated by a few different causes.  They can arise from stress,  trauma or of a viral nature.  As long as they resolve in 7-10 days they should be considered benign.  The fact that they appear consistently after the activity described should encourage you to look for an underlying cause and consult with your dentist or physician.
