is it safe to use the oral pain medication orajel while you are pregnant?

Yes: Orajel is the same as topical anesthetic which is often used as an numbing agent prior to injections of local anesthetic. It penetrates only the outer most layer of the gum tissue. Used sparingly, it should not travel systemically in which case it should be safe to use. Pregnant patients with necessary dental work receive not only topical anesthetic but local anesthetic as well.

Not really: Using  too much baby orajel may make your child nauseated and fussy.  The medicament has limited effect.  You would be better using a cool or iced rag or frozen rings( liquid filled plastic loops) for them to suck or chew on.

Yes, but?: Why would you want to? If it is that painful to brush your teeth that you would like to put orajel on your toothbrush then you may have some oral problems that need to be addressed. Best to see your dentist to make sure there is no pathology or disease in your mouth. If everything is fine then you can put orajel on your toothbrush if you desire, but put a fluoridated toothpaste on as well.

Yes, but...: Most, if not all, doctors would consider that a waste of time and money. The Orajel will not make a noticeable difference in anything related to the shots. Even the skin anesthetics that doctors sometimes use before starting IV's or doing blood draws need not be used in babies' shots, partly because the shot needles are tiny and the pain is more from the vaccine liquid expanding into the muscle.
