Numbing gel: The active ingredient is Benzocaine which dentists use as a topical anesthetic. If you have a toothache this product may give you some relief, but it is meant to be used sparingly and not for long term use.

Topical Benzocaine: Temporarily relieves pain caused by braces and dentures, canker sores, cold sores, fever blisters, minor irritation or injury to the mouth, sore gums due to teething (infants and children), or toothaches. There are different strengths and they now have other formulas for infants because some studies show risk of methemoglobinemia (limits the bloods ability to carry oxygen) with benzocaine.
