Topical Benzocaine: Temporarily relieves pain caused by braces and dentures, canker sores, cold sores, fever blisters, minor irritation or injury to the mouth, sore gums due to teething (infants and children), or toothaches. There are different strengths and they now have other formulas for infants because some studies show risk of methemoglobinemia (limits the bloods ability to carry oxygen) with benzocaine.
