Lidocaine (drops): = local anesthetic that is used to numb or desensitize the ocular surface so that the pressure of the eye can be measured or so that a lens can be placed on it.  Topical anesthetic mixtures containing Lidocaine are used frequently in cataract surgery as well.  Frequent use of these drops can result in "neurotrophic keratopathy" which can lead to severe drying and even ulcers of the cornea.

i have pseudotumour cerebri diagnosed by lp, mri & opthalmology. moved country & they want to repeat lp. i also have ehlers danlos & arachnoiditis. lps cause leaks & arachnoiditis. can i refuse repeat lp. is it my right to refuse this test / treat?

: Certainly, you have the right to decline any medical tests or treatments.  LP's offer the most convenient approach to measure intracranial pressure and assess the outcome of therapeutic approaches.  Yet, post spinal tap headaches could occur, especially with connective tissue disease.  Perhaps, best approach would be to do under fluoroscopy?  Discuss all of this with your doctor.

eye pressure in both eyes via puff test was 25. so ,senior resident asked jr of opthalmology to perform applanation tonometry. she used anaesthetic drop but did not use flouroscein at all and results were 14 and 16. now,are these readings reliable?

My opinion- yes: B"sd
Not a fan of RAI therapy in general.  Worsening of opthalmopathy is common with RAI rx – usually give steroids to help mitigate.  My recommendation is usually surgical.

had eye surgery (lens transplant) was given 250 mg methylpred iv, now on acetazolamide pills 250 mg, azarga timolol opthamolic. feel weak. heart slow.

How slow?: The timolol eye drops can slow your heart, but it shouldn't be under 50 while at rest. Count your pulse. You've just had surgery - you're on a bunch of meds. Give yourself a break. Rest. Take it easy!

i have drug induced optic toxicity. it's affected only one eye the symptoms are dim vision and focus issue and little color change.opthalmology and mri doctor said my eyes are fine. it's been 4 months. generally how long does it take to recover?

: Would have anticipated some improvement by now if healing were continuing to proceed.   See your ophthalmologist and request some testing.  Would recommend Optical Coherent Tomography and Visual Evoked Potentials to start.  You would feel better if you fully understood the current status.

The : The best thing to do to preserve vision in glaucoma is to lower the eye pressure as much as possible.  This can be accomplished with several different types of glaucoma eyedrops, laser treatment, or glaucoma surgery.  The worst thing to do is give up.  If your mother has dim vision from the glaucoma eyedrop, as a possible side effect, then please call her ophthalmologist.
