Yes: Both fentanyl and Opana are opiates.  Opana er is the trade name for Oxymorphone ( a derivative of morphine).  The medications differ in their side effects and length of activity.

Better?: In terms of potency Opana er 40 mg is equal to about 120 mg of morphine.  In general i find that the side effects from taking Opana er are seen less often than with morphine.  Does that make it better?

OpanaIR lasts on : Average between six and 13 hours with the average being somewhere around eight. Opana er lasts between six and 36 hours. I would talk to your sleep specialist about this. Having a narcotic in your system around the clock is probably not in your best interest. Switching to another narcotic may indeed be a better answer. Another possibility would be a slight increase in the dose of the ir form. Best wishes.

UDS: This is not unusual as Codeine gets metabolized to Morphine. However the amounts in the urine is what is important.

No: They are both opioids with risk for respiratory depression and overdose.  I don't understand why you have two different prescriptions for breakthrough pain. This is dangerous.

Yes,: most of these screening tests are looking for the final metabolite of drugs, which is morphine and Codeine for most (but not all) opiates. Opana is hydromorphone, which is metabolized mostly into morphine and maybe a little codeine. However, positives on screening tests should be confirmed with more sophisticated (as well as expensive) testing.

Family intervention.: "They" used to say that an addict had to want treatment for success in getting off drugs. We know now that a family intervention with the help of a qualified addiction specialist can be very successful in getting treatment started. This may not be paid for by insurance &amp; be expensive but there are some outstanding programs, inc. Betty Ford Clinic who now people who can help. Ask PCP for area help.

Unlikely: You may take over the counter medications for pain relief. Make sure to not exceed the recommended doses. If you can manage without the medications that were stolen, you may look at it as a blessing.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.
