i have isb (c&d) here lately it is only c. i take benefiber (cant take metamucil) and 2 dulcolax, but if i take the 2, i wind up with awful diarrhea, like you go before you make it to the toilet for abou 8-12 hours. is there anything else i can take?

: If you have not tried PEG (miralax, an OTC laxative), you should, you can easily adjust the dose ad lib. If miralax does not work, you need med by prescription such as lubiprostone or linaclotide and plecanatide .

: There is  wide variation in what "normal" folks have regarding BMs per day. One does not "need" to have a BM every day or even every other day. Everyone is different.

Yes, but: what are you treating?  Bisacodyl is a laxative.  Bentyl (dicyclomine) is an antispasmodic.  To some extent the laxative would cause cramps to cause a movement and ease constipation.  If this is your primary problem then you should just take the laxative.  If cramps is the primary problem and you are not constipated, you don't need a laxative.

Oh my gosh: Why would you do that?  That isn't a good idea. See that you have had all kinds of GI studies - please discuss this with your GI health provider.

NO: these are the same medication- do not overuse laxatives. Use 8-10 glasses of fluid, fiber ( fruit, vegetables, cereals)  and bran.

See answer: It is ok to take it once assuming you don't have abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, blood in stool, or other alarm symptoms that would be best evaluated in an ER setting before trying those meds. Another option is to use a fleets enema. Increase your water/fiber intake as well. You may need to see a gastroenterologist for your severe constipation. I hope you get better soon!

: For occasional constipation, I would try the fiber supplement first. This may be just enough to regulate the bowel movements. The fiber supplements are all about the same so whichever is easier for you to get and is affordable would be suitable. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you may want to see your doctor prior to taking any medicine for it to review possible dietary interventions. Good luck

Yes, you may: Metamucil is a bulk laxative. This improves the formation of your stool, so it moves more effeciently and minimizes the risk of diverticular disease. Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) is a laxative, which will chemically enhance the motility of your gut. Bulk laxatives may be taken daily, but only as directed. More is not better. Mom should be used only on occasion, as directed. Good luck.
