so i'm told i have idiopathic edema. how long will it take to clear up. woke up with both feet swollen..been a week now.

Hard to say: Idiopathic means that there is not a known cause so it is difficult to say how long it will last.  It could be a few days or a few weeks.  In some cases swelling can be a long-term struggle.  If you have other conditions, such as varicose veins, this can lead to chronic swelling in the legs and having them treated can help.

could edema cause swollen wrists as well as ankles and the top of both feet? also, would it cause a burning feeling in the feet and around the wrists?

: Given your diagnosis and age you could be experiencing the beginnings of continue and ongoing  swelling of extremities. Elevate legs, move ankle up and down while sitting. Support hose a must. Get a  head start on this. Long term  edema of your legs is not good. I encourage some type of activity. If you do not use it you will loose it!!!  Seek medical help. The difficult part is starting

This : This is a very limited question , in terms of information
many things ought to be cosidered. The first is , if you have swelling , why? Swelling in the feet , could be due to many many causes that not necesarilly are due to arthritis or joints and this swelling might be the cause of the pain. If one determines the cause of pain so then diferent test could help to determine whether that swelling could be resolved and how. On the other hand m bone does not cause swelling , if the consistency is that of bone , so again imaging studies ought to be done to define why this is so.

May be acrocyanosis: Some of these  symptoms match acrocyanosis, which is a physiologic way that blood can cause pooling. The edema is not related . Cannot say why your hands are splotchy . Your evaluation may help clarify your medical situation.

Varicose veins: You might have developed varicose veins during your pregnancy leading to the leg but not hand swelling after pregnancy.  Check with  your doctor to see if anything can be done about this.  If you had gained too  much weight during your pregnancy, it is time to try losing the extra baggage.  If both hands and legs are swollen, then you should also check with your doctor and cut down salt intake.

Feet swelling can be due to malfunctioning leg veins, blood clots in leg veins, pressure on leg veins due to clothing or something else, heart failure, liver or kidney disease, too much salt, too little protein, sitting too long, standing too long, thyroid disease, tropical parasites, etc..
