Hard to say: Idiopathic means that there is not a known cause so it is difficult to say how long it will last. It could be a few days or a few weeks. In some cases swelling can be a long-term struggle. If you have other conditions, such as varicose veins, this can lead to chronic swelling in the legs and having them treated can help.
